In MTH mode it asks me for a password

In Home mode after pushing running between room and pushing both WPS buttons, the white light flashes for a minute then goes out. Do I need to hold both buttons down? Is there a proximity requirement? Do I have to do this sequence every new session?  What is WPS?

If I remember correctly WPS is Wifi Protected system or setup. Can't remember exactly. I don't think you should have to push and hold.  In the past I would push the button on the back of the unit and then push it on the device I was trying to connect.  As for proximity, if your phone is connected you should be able to connect the MTH Wifi unit.

I did just read that you may need to press and hold the button on the back of your home router a few seconds before it is ready to send the signal.  Give it a try and see if that helps.

What is the advantage of using " home" network?

Really the only advantage from what I see is the home network allows you to stay connected to the internet.  Giving you the ability to use the MTH app to search MTH products and catalogs from within the app.  At this point I don't plan on using the home network. Simply because I don't feel the need to search MTH's site while running trains.

12/28/15 10:45 PM, I was contacted by MTH and they are at a loss as to what is going on with my MTH Wi-Fi and why I cannot sign on at my home with an iPad.  I returned my device to the train dealer and again everything worked fine at the store.  I borrowed his device at the request of MTH, hooked it up about an hour ago and with this different MTH Wi-Fi device, it still will not allow me to sign in.  I'm able to run my trains with this new device using my iPhone but not the iPad.  I keep typing the password "mthdcswifi" and it keeps coming back asking for the password.  I can never get beyond that.  I turned off my home Wi-Fi thinking that it might somehow be interfering but that did not do anything either.  I am now certain that it is not my iPad nor the MTH Wi-Fi device since both work at the train dealer but simply something else that is going wrong but what?  That is the million dollar question.  The experts at MTH in Michigan told me that this is a first and will contact me again tomorrow.  Is anyone else having a similar issue like this?

Barry:  When I was on the phone with Jason (MTH Michigan office) he thought that also and that is why he had me turn it off while he was on the phone with me but that did not solve the problem either.  Remember that I am always able to run my trains using my iPhone just not able to get past the log on in the setting page of my iPad.  I mentioned to him that I have four TIU's, three AIU's, and that the TIU's are powered by a separate power source, not one of the four Z-4000 that I'm using but he did not think that was an issue.  I'm just trying to recreate what is going on at the train dealer's location since both my iPhone and iPad work there with no problem.  The only strange thing is that I never have to use the password with my iPhone, either at home or at the train dealer's location, it simply logs on automatically.  With the iPad, once I log in with the password once (mthdcswifi) I don't have to sign in again at the train dealer's location.  I just wish the same thing would happen at my home.  I'll see what ideas Jason has tomorrow but today he was at a loss for a solution except to try another Wi-Fi device which is what I did tonight.

By the way, Tony at Trains and Things, Ewing Twp., New Jersey (609) 883-8790 said he still has not received a supply of your book which he said he has ordered.  You may want to reach out to him since they are in demand.

The first and second shipment for pre-orders have been out since Friday, December 18th since that is when I picked mine up.  Trains and Things in Ewing Twp., NJ has received two shipments already.  He will ship you one if you are interested.  Call Tony at (609) 883-8790 after 10 AM Eastern Time.  I know that he has at least five left as of tonight (Monday, 12-28-15).

Rich,

The only strange thing is that I never have to use the password with my iPhone, either at home or at the train dealer's location, it simply logs on automatically.

That's the way it works. iOS remembers passwords and applies them automatically.

I E-mailed Tony yesterday that his books had shipped. According to UPS, he should receive them tomorrow.

So here is what I did today.  I connected a replacement MTH Wi-Fi to my layout in another room where I simply have sidings powered by a separate Z-4000, TIU #5, and I have one AIU in that room.  Because the track from that room to my main layout is not connected, I simply turned everything off in my main room and tried the MTH Wi-Fi device and iPad in the room with the sidings.  Low and behold it worked in that room but as soon as I powered up the 28 items in my main layout room, I lost the Wi-Fi connection.  I am now thinking it might have something to do with two wireless camera's that I have mounted in the main room and will try narrowing down the issue with the help of a friend who will be coming over later.  For now at least I have Wi-Fi connection with my iPad on part of my layout.  I'll post what I learn later.

FINALLY I FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM AS TO WHY MY iPAD WAS NOT ALLOWED TO SIGN INTO THE MTH DCS Wi-Fi DEVICE.

It was two wireless camera's that I had been using on my lower level subway layout that caused an interference with the Wi-Fi signal.  I simply disconnected the power to both camera's and I was up and running the trains with both my iPhone and iPad in seconds.  Success and it's about time!

I'm certain that other's may run into a similar situation where you simply cannot sign on to the MTH Wi-Fi using the correct password so I wanted to post my situation since even the "experts" at the Michigan MTH location were at a loss as to what was going on.  Thanks again for anyone who offered advice, I'm up and running my trains with the MTH Wi-Fi and my iPad Air 2!

On the up side, over the years I have used MTH Tech Support several times, usually talk to Diana and she will stay with an issue until it is resolved and Jeff does the same. I hope I remember the names correctly. As one gets older, names become an issue, called C.R.S. / Can't remember stuff. There is a better word for stuff.

One time I had a major issue with a RailKing locomotive, it needed a new board and they took care of it for free.

To make a long story short, it is a first class operation.

On a side bar topic, I am please that MTH is developing the Advanced WiFi APP at their St. Joseph, Michigan location. Michigan is still a leader when it comes to engineering & design. Every automotive manufacture has an engineering foot print in Michigan.

I've always had a great experience with MTH.  Once I was looking forward to receiving an engine and kept asking Rich Foster (sales) to keep me posted.  Once, a few days before Christmas I was in Maryland and he called me on my cell phone to see if I was in the area and I was.  He said that they were unloading the container and that if I wanted to pick it up to call him after finishing dinner and he would meet me at the front door.  He did and I received my NS Heritage Diesel with the Pennsylvania scheme in time for Christmas.  I will always remember that since it was even an hour after they had closed their doors but Rich stayed around and waited for me.  They have a great team both in Maryland and Michigan!

PS:  Barry, I just picked up your 3rd Edition at Train's and Things, Ewing Twp, NJ.  They just came in and will be reading it soon.

Just picked up 6 WIFI units for the club. Decided to try one on my test track at home. It took less that a minute to setup and I was off and running. added the engine in no time. Same easy procedure for my ipad.

We will be setting up at the club to  along side the icab Lionel app which is currently running. We have an internal network that Matt Jackson has set up and will run off that. Unfortunately, since we run in super TIU mode, we will have to wait until the full version of the app is released in the spring.

MTH has a winner here.

Jeff
