MTH Great Northern 4-8-4

I am on vacation and spotted a beautiful GN 4-8-4 from MTH Proto 3 at a hobby shop. Any of you out there have anything to say about this engine? Is it a good runner, etc.? The detail is incredible, and I don't know if I can spend the bucks, but.... Apparently it comes in a few road numbers, and I am wanting a 3-rail version.How long ago did it make the hobby shops, as I see it was in the 2013 catalog. Any comments would be a great help I am sure. Thanks.

Although I have the "first issue" of this spectacular model, a very good friend of mine has TWO of the newest 3.0 versions. There run beautifully, and the new sound package is a big improvement over the "first issue" model (especially the whistle).

Yes it is. In fact, I have a friend who owns the Sunset/3rd Rail brass model of the same GN S2, and the MTH model has more, and better, add-on detail than the brass version!

Just going by memory, I think it comes in at least 3 different road numbers, plus painted either "GN Glacier Green" or black. My local hobby shop has the locomotive & passenger car sets in stock, and that road number, in green was 2581, as I recall.
and I am wanting a 3-rail version.How long ago did it make the hobby shops, as I see it was in the 2013 catalog. Any comments would be a great help I am sure. Thanks.

Not quite the same engine but similar: 30-1564-1 Imperial Railking 4-8-4 Northern in Milwaukee Road marking. Also my first PS3 engine.

It looks great and runs like a top. Sound is excellent, tho the chuffing is not as pronounced as my PS2 Big Boy. That could be prototypical tho.

It's got a lot of scale miles on it already, runs regularly.
