MTH PS3 AE-1000034 in E8 AA Diesel

Hello, MTH Novice here. I dabble in O, G, HO, On30, N, DCC and DCS. I do appreciate the quality of MTH equipment and seem to be drawn more towards "O" than the other scales.

I was given a PS3 E-8 AA Diesel. The owner admitted to regularly removing and setting the engine down on live track. He saw the sparks and all. The engine seems to be completely unresponsive. The power and WTIU the engine are on all work fine with other PS3/2 engines.

Other than swapping the PS3 PCB, can anyone suggest common component failures due to improper power application?

Also, is there anyone out there doing pS3 board repairs? I'm in Illinois.
