I know it's been hashed around for years now and I and others bring it up every 6 months or so, just wondering if there is any word on this or has it been pushed on the back burner?

 

I've attempted a few change to MTH using kadees, and I gotta tell ya, some of the newer MTH cars are difficult(hoppers, High Cube), I mean with the newer trucks with those air hoses. I find you almost have to butcher the truck to get the coupler off. Easier would be to just get all new trucks with no couplers.

I did a set of Bombardier cars and I just took the Dremel and sliced off the hi-rail couplers. I have a couple of cars I'm going to re-fit and I'm going to do these the hard way.

I tend to use the Weaver die cast 3-Rail trucks, whenever I don't want to install 2-Rail trucks. As far as MTH cars go, generally speaking no other truck will easily fit their rolling stock, because the truck mounting screw threads from the car under frame INTO the threaded holes on the MTH truck bolster. Therefor, it is simply better to remove the oversized coupler from the MTH trucks, and cut-off the unwanted protrusions, at least that is what I have done to a hundred or so MTH freight cars.

after reading about MTH,I'm considering selling my O scale limited stock&staying in HO.(?)

I've noticed some of the problems with MTH trucks too. Tthe major manufactuers need to get their brains together&make things such as trucks interchangeable at least to the degree it matters to the modeler. In the tiny bit of time I've been in O,I think it's just starting to sink through to manufactuers that there are modelers here,not just people wanting to run a train around&around in a circle while watching tv.

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of your post, especially if you are moving to HO.

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of your post, especially if you are moving to HO.

 

I'm not moving to HO,have been in HO&am hoping to move to O. Just evaluating all the pros&cons right now.
