Hi GUYZ,
I bought a lightly used MTH Premier Blu Mt. Reading T1 a few weeks back. It was run about 2hours before I got it. I have been running it for a few weeks and it started acting up. I was running at a slow speed, 37 MPH, then would speed up for a few feet then go back to normal speed. Then coming around a certain turn would stop and shut down. When I would power up the track again it would go into reverse then stop. I noticed the tether was frayed and the wires were bare. Can I fix this by insulating the wires or do I have to get a new tether? Thanks for your help.

I came across a small engine the other day that obviously has either a bad tether or a bad socket.  (MTH PS/2, RailKing, entry level steamer of some sort, Pennsylvania).

Wiggling the tether around would cause the sound to cut in and out.  The engine ran fine in DCS mode.  The startup relay click was audible no matter what.

Are the tether and socket easy to get?  Are they somewhat generic?

I'm not sure how easy it will be to determine the model number of the engine.  Perhaps searching on cab number and road name will make it pretty easy.

Thanks,

Mike
