Hi Stewart, good to hear from you, If your engine runs faster in one direction than the other it is usually brush tension. I would try to adjust the brush springs to get equal RPM, usually you can check this using a tooth pick and pushing down on the brushes...

What ball bearing it looks like I'm in need of one it seems that my USA locos are going through a rough patch first the MTH Challenger smoke unit now the motor in my LIONEL 8020 and I do have alan keys but nothing this small to turn the screw down here's my Challenger last year
