New 6-28297 Lionel GP-9 Diesel Makes terrible static noise upon startup

The loco is newly purchased and the sound is terrible. I am running it on a DCS layout with a TMCC base and a cab-1. Can anyone give a possible cause?

It could be the sound chip may have gotten jarred loose during shipping and is not fully seated in the board, this can cause static in the soundset.Pulling and reseating the sound chip usually does the trick. Those geeps are pretty crammed, I assume the loco is under warranty you may save yourself some frustration by emailing Lionel for an RA and sending it to them for repair.
