All,

This is my first post here so I hope I am not asking questions that have been covered to death in the past.  I have an older PS-2 Pennsylvania FA-2 ABA. (20-2332)  I just got into DCS this year and wanted to update the sound file.  The sound file on MTH's site listed for this engine is a 5v file and my engine is a 3v unit.  I searched for a different file and used one from a 2010 (engine 20-20059).  The sound is much better but the engine throttling seems out of sync with the engine.  For example, the engine will accelerate significantly before the engine sound revs up.

Does anyone know if I've used a correct sound file for this engine?  Is there any rule of thumb when searching for a newer (better) sound file for PS-2 engines in general?

Happy New Year to all!

Tony

It could be the new sound file or there is a difference in gear ratio.  Any 3V sound file can load into a 3V board.  But the sound file has engine characteristics so the lighting and sounds may be different and the big one is the speed curve.  Normally, diesel ratios are the same, but steam vary.  So the rule of thumb is use similar engine and RK to RK; Premier to Premier or Scale speed may be off.

In your case since the engine was originally 5V, MTH added an upgrade SF which is 3V.  It is a conversion of the original 5V file. So it should work fine.  I would think that is what is in it though.  Who ever did the upgrade would have chosen that first.  G

@GGG,

I did look for the most similar, in my case Premier to Premier and even PRR to PRR.  I saved the original and downloaded the new 3v file gunrunnerjohn pointed me to.  I will experiment to figure out the differences.  I purchased this engine used and had no idea it was ever upgraded.

Thank you both for your very quick replies!
