After powering everything down and turning things back on after 30 minutes, everything is fine.

I am encountering this more and more often.  In fact, off-line I just asked a resident superguru about it.  Happens with both PS2 (all supercap) and PS3.  Haven't pinpointed, yet, the conditions under which it happens.  Loco is lit but silent, won't react to startup and shutdown (but memory seems to recall instances where they would turn lights and nothing else on & off), no movement.  Causing DCS to send watchdog signal has no effect.

I've reached an age where I should start keeping logs, but that would destroy the fun.  I'm wondering if it happens after a breaker opens.  Trying a different remote has no effect.

I have also experienced situations in which one remote won't change speed of a loco, b ut the others will.  Again, I haven't kept a log of which remote(s) do(es) this.

Never a dull moment in this hobby!

That is so true.  I started up a Ps2/supercap loco today, and as soon as I scrolled to 1 smph, it started down the track at about 30 with the lights flickering.  Acceleration & deceleration instantaneous.  Shutdown & startup did nothing.  Took a feature rest.  So what's the cause?????  Maybe the blankety-blank leprechuans again; they usually only attack wires when I'm rewiring.

Gregg: don't speak so soon

I use 2 TIU's in the super mode. I love the record/playback feature and just finished a playback run. I have guests coming and wanted a dry run. When the smoke unit was turned on or off in this run, it killed the lights as we all know of that bug. Somehow turning the lights back on, the remote went tilt and only for this one engine. I guess 5.0 still has that bug. I'm not in a hurry to upgrade. Things are really working pretty well. Hope I didn't jinx myself here!
