Engine was working fine. Then no response on remote to speed, always stays at o. All other functions work. Second remote works just fine. What am I missing?

I would open up the remote and make sure the communications board is plugged all the way in. It's possible the remote is not communicating with the TIU.
As Barry would say..... This and many more facts on DCS are in his new 3rd Edition of "The DCS O Gauge Companion" Page 155 in the 2nd Edition.
The remote works with other engines. I was using this remote to reset the lights after the smoke on off bug thing. I suspect I did something. I did grab Barry's book, but decided to come here as well.
Hmm No error messages? I would delete it and add it again. Will it add? If so does it have the same ID as the other remote.
Wait a minute try a feature reset first... Menu/Advanced/ engine reset/ feature reset
Problem solved! After powering everything down and turning things back on after 30 minutes, everything is fine. FYI, I did do delete, readd, reset, etc. with no change. I suspect now that repowering the remote was the key here. Thanks for the comments.
Glad to hear it's fixed...
Yes, Glad to hear that you figured it out. I did think about suggesting the "turn everything off and walk away for 2 hrs." fix-it plan.
Like most computer systems----when all else fails, reboot! Very happy when it works!
I suspect the engine started up in conventional mode.
Yes you can blow the whistle, bell couplers etc but it just won't move until you hit start up...
Change batteries in the remote believe it or not low batteries will do that
okay something else but I've had it happen with low batteries had everything but throttle

I am encountering this more and more often. In fact, off-line I just asked a resident superguru about it. Happens with both PS2 (all supercap) and PS3. Haven't pinpointed, yet, the conditions under which it happens. Loco is lit but silent, won't react to startup and shutdown (but memory seems to recall instances where they would turn lights and nothing else on & off), no movement. Causing DCS to send watchdog signal has no effect.
I've reached an age where I should start keeping logs, but that would destroy the fun. I'm wondering if it happens after a breaker opens. Trying a different remote has no effect.
I have also experienced situations in which one remote won't change speed of a loco, b ut the others will. Again, I haven't kept a log of which remote(s) do(es) this.
I have a lot of experience with DCS but this event was different. The odd thing was that the remote would not leave 0 smph. This was a remote issue I'm sure. Batteries were good. Never a dull moment in this hobby!
Yep! we certain have had instances were one remote would run a engine and another wouldn't. Same engine. same ID, added to same tiu. however we were running super mode . Can't say having the problem with version 5 , so far so good.
Never a dull moment in this hobby!
That is so true. I started up a Ps2/supercap loco today, and as soon as I scrolled to 1 smph, it started down the track at about 30 with the lights flickering. Acceleration & deceleration instantaneous. Shutdown & startup did nothing. Took a feature rest. So what's the cause????? Maybe the blankety-blank leprechuans again; they usually only attack wires when I'm rewiring.
Gregg: don't speak so soon
I use 2 TIU's in the super mode. I love the record/playback feature and just finished a playback run. I have guests coming and wanted a dry run. When the smoke unit was turned on or off in this run, it killed the lights as we all know of that bug. Somehow turning the lights back on, the remote went tilt and only for this one engine. I guess 5.0 still has that bug. I'm not in a hurry to upgrade. Things are really working pretty well. Hope I didn't jinx myself here!
Correct. 5.0 has not cured the smoke/lights bug.
Sometimes if one loses the head light, changing direction and back to forward will bring the headlight back without doing a feature reset.. Give it a try next time and see if it works. It's kind of hit and miss .Yeah! the record playback is great...
I rarely do a feature reset for this. The more button gets me to all the features I need. Generally more than the headlight is affected. Thanks though.
