Not sure if this has ever been posted before but I just tripped over it.

Chris,
The Trains ran those Tracks long before there was a freeway next them, great piece of history there!
Thanks for posting the really nice video!

Great video - thanks
How cool is that
There is a fantastic video series called Extreme Trains and one of the episodes talks about this stretch of track called the Alameda Trench.
Watch it here Extreme Trains
If you don't want to watch the whole episode, start at 11:50 to see the trench.
Have Fun!

Black smoke plumes are the sign of a poorly fired steam locomotive. This video shows a oil burning steam locomotive being fired efficiently and correctly.
What a sight to see that coming down the middle of the I-10!
Really surprised there were no accidents and surely every driver was looking at the train!!
Hard to believe it will be out of service for 2-4 years. Hope the refurbishment goes well.
Well, not a steam locomotive, but a stretch of freeway in Austin was built on both sides of the Missouri Pacific R.O.W. and Union Pacific as well as Amtrak trains still run down the middle of the MoPac Expressway/Texas Loop 1. Expect UP 844 may have plied this route while making her rounds.
Did leave room for error but still a very treacherous stretch of road for a railfan.
Talk about driver distraction! YIKES!
From other videos I’ve seen, it looks like they do about 55 in that area. Thanks for sharing Chris
There have been quite a few video and photos of 3795 running down that freeway when it has been doing excusions. Don't know if any have been posted here before, though. I've seen the trains running down the middle of the MOPAC freeway in Austin many times - it's neat to watch as you're cruising down that freeway, and especially to pace them if going the same direction. I was driving down a freeway in Washington state along the Columbia River two weeks ago heading to Portland and there were UP tracks that ran right next to the freeway for miles, and crisscrossed under it many times, as we headed west. During some stretches eastbound tracks were running along the south side of the freeway, and westbound tracks were running along the north side, with plenty of trains to watch going both directions.

The new high speed rail from Los Angeles to San Francisco will travel much of the way in the center median of the I-5 freeway.

Maybe that was one of the original proposals. Maybe I misunderstood. Anyway, thanks for straightening me out.
