Beyond that D&RGW Third Rail articulated, which I would love to have the barn I'd need to run that and its close relatives in, Third Rail has done at least one other large Rio Grande loco, a "Buffalo". Most of my favorite prototypes have otherwise not been done in three rail. O scale brass, yes, but I can't run them.

So far, my favorite trains are the cars I have redecorated for a shortline road I once worked with. I especially like the Atlas 89' tofc cars with QA&P (proto-lanced) container trailers.  The orange GARX double plug is similar to a fleet of cars that actually existed, but the others are "should have been...".

Rolling Stock:

• Grain Hoppers. Love the things. Have a ton of them.
• Non-grain covered hoppers. Have a ton of them, too.
• Atlas-O Woodside Reefers (Former forum member "ToyTrains1" Dave and I coined the phrase "Reefer Madness" associated with these cars)

To be correct, the engines Lionel made in the 80's and early 90's were SD40's, noted by their short rear porches.

For me, the 18018 Southern Mikado has always been my favorite in my collection, along with the 18000 B-6 Switcher and 18043 C&O Yellowbelly. MTH's Aerotrain and my newly purchased SD40-2's by Weaver are also high on the list.

I really get a kick out of collecting small toy characters and putting them on flat cars.

I have around 200 flat cars so far.

1. Lionel 746 N&W 4-8-4 Class J Northern.

2.  LTI 5340 J-1e Hudson

3.  1950 and 1964 Lionel 773 Hudsons.

4.  Lionel NYC and Santa Fe F3s to include both post war and modern era.  Actually all of their F3s.

5.  All of Lionel's GG1's both scale and traditional sized. 

6.  Early Lionel Alco FAs.

I could go on and on but you get my drift. 

Any engine with elephant ears on it.

Lionel ES44ACs all of them.

Probably a shorter list would be what trains are you not attracted to or what would you not run on your layout.

Pick only 5 engines to keep, what would they be

Atlas, and now Lionel, SD40's and MTH GP40's.

Lionel PS-2 2-bay covered hoppers are my favorite rolling stock.

Oh, I could probably gin up a huge list of trains I am not attracted to and would not run on my layout, or accord shelf space to....many of those are others' favorites...but, ......different strokes.  A list of the ones I will would be much shorter.....(the fact I've ordered nothing out of any catalogs for several years is evidence of that....not that I would not like to and could, if there was something there)

Postwar lionel early (1947-1949)  675-2025 with the baldwin wheels - very smooth runners and good pullers as it seemed the machining was spot on .

Also enjoy running the "46" version of the 726.
