Atlas is offering individual Heavyweight Madison Cars without markings, but still painted Pullman Green with black roofs. We are planning to buy these and redecorate them for our customers that would like heavyweight cars that either haven't been done or are hard to find. Our plan is to do these in 7 car sets - Baggage; Combo; RPO; Diner, 2 Coaches and an Observation and offering the sets for $899.95.

These are the road names that have been requested so far:

  • Pere Marquette
  • Louisville & Nashville
  • Burlington
  • FEC
  • Maine Central
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rutland
  • Western Maryland
  • Illinois Central
  • Union Pacific
  • MKT
  • Reading Company
  • TP&W
  • Nacionales de Mexico
  • Penn Central
  • Nickel Plate Road
  • Central of Georgia

To make the creation of the lettering sets more cost effective, I would like 5 preorders of each set in order to get them made.

These cars will be decaled and not pad printed.  Now before you turn your nose up in disgust over decals, check out the picture of my Challenger Tender in Western Maryland, below. This tender left MTH as Denver & Rio Grande and its been re-lettered, decorated and weathered as Western Maryland. The Heavyweights don't need to be weathered - but they need the slight overspray to blend the lettering in. Pretty terrific job!

You can go here to place your preorder - no payment is required.

If you'd like to see something else run, let me know. I can also have a different paint scheme run, something different than Pullman green, but that's going to add $400-500 to the price of the 7 car set

This is a Great offering for those of us that collect/run roads that have been ignored / neglected by the train manufacturers. I’ve immediately requested and now have reserved a MKT set. Sure - lots of Streamline “TexasSpecial” cars have been done. But Hard to believe never done for Heavyweights !!!
MKT fans Step Up !!!
I think the head end cars have a bit of pop because MKT always had their herald on the sides of these green cars. (A small bonus IMO) MKT didn’t always have enough cars available for the Tx. Special and would bring in heavyweights when needed. These cars are a nice option to work into your streamlined consist - and it would be prototypical.

Any chance of you doing separate sale baggage and RPO?  Here is what I am looking at (and I may be the only one).

The PRR had 70’ baggage and RPO cars.  These Atlas cars could provide head end cars for both 18” (72’) and 21” (84’) cars, especially if they had the PRR specific round windows and no stripes.

There might be setups in other roads.

Go ahead and order a baggage and an RPO and we will have them lettered for you in Pennsylvania - it will be like $70 a car....

3007037 is the baggage and 3007038 is the RPO
