Hi John and Ben.
The four of us are staying near Times Square for the weekend. What is the best or easiest way to travel to Trainstock 4 from there? We will not have a car, so would a taxi be best as i dont think the subways or Elevated trains go that far?

thanks,

jim r from bridgeboss.com

Jim, if I may throw my two cents in, a cab ride would be quite expensive from midtown Manhattan. You might want to look into taking New Jersey Transit rail service out to Paterson or Hawthorne, and then try to get a cab from there to the Hi-Railers. (I would choose Hawthorne, it might be easier to get a cab from Hawthorne, IMO.) Here's a link showing where the trains go.

From your hotel in Times Square you should ask directions to the PATH train to Hoboken. Once there you can transfer to NJ Transit. Maybe someone else has an easier route but if you don't have a car this might be your best bet.

There's very frequent train service from NJ Transit at Penn Station to
the major transit hub at Secaucus. There should be good taxi service from
there. It's not all that close to Paterson, but a connecting train to get
you closer greatly complicates your schedule, and then you would need
a taxi anyway (plus you have four guys to split the fare).
OK, here we go. There are always a million or so weather posts for York and people get upset when it's going to rain. My approach to that is that it doesn't matter very much for York. For Trainstock it REALLY DOES matter.

And the preliminary report is that we're going to do just fine. A low of 23, a high of 37 and only a 10% chance of precipitation. And since the only thing that really matters is precipitation, right now we are LOOKING GOOD !!!

I look forward to seeing all my rowdy friends (Oh wait; Hank Jr is politically incorrect -- all the more reason to say it).

Gerry
Ben and crew,
Just re-confirming that I'm attending but will be empty-handed with no mallomars. Sorry guys-Vinnie's cooking and fabulous desserts will have to do. Also, I'm bringing a very highly respectable and happily retired toy train executive to the shindig. He can't wait to see all his friends from years ago and present.

See you all on Saturday.

P.S. As for that Mike Wolf guy, is he attending? Razz

Marty,

I'm not too sure about this guy Mike. At the opening page of this thread, I saw a photo of him hanging around in a Dolphins' sweat shirt and now he's wearing a Patriots Blue color! Talk about nebulous loyalties!! I guess the best way is to see if he sets off any warning bells, whistles and/or alarms this Saturday and if so, Ben has told me that nearby MetLife Stadium is deserted this weekend (except for one supposedly lifelong resident who might want company) so ......

Bill
Just to let everybody know This is an overhead of our building The parking lots with the large arrows can be used If they get full park along 6th ave from river down to the train tracks or along 11th street from 5th ave to Erie st. ( The small arrows ) Dont park on River street

Also I would suggest NOT using your GPS. Its going to take you through downtown Paterson where there is a ton of traffic and not a great neighborhood. I would suggest following these

From Points South

1- Take the Garden State Pkwy to exit 156. Merge onto route 20 north. Stay on rte 20 and left exit at 5th avenue. Make a left on fifth. Go over the railroad tracks and make the first left onto River street. Make a right on 6th avenue and we are in the big tan building .

2- Take the NJ Tpke to exit 16W route 3 West. Take route 3 about 2 miles and take Route 21 north. Route 21 north becomes route 20.Stay on rte 20 and left exit at 5th avenue. Make a left on fifth. Go over the railroad tracks and make the first left onto river street. Make a right on 6th avenue and we are in the big tan building.

From Points North

Take the Garden State Pkwy south and exit at Route 80 west. Exit route 80 at exit 60 onto route 20 North. Stay on rte 20 and left exit at 5th avenue. Make a left on fifth. Go over the railroad tracks and make the first left onto river street. Make a right on 6th avenue and we are in the big tan building.

From Point West

Take route 80 east to exit 60 route 20 north. Stay on rte 20 and left exit at 5th avenue. Make a left on fifth. Go over the railroad tracks and make the first left onto river street. Make a right on 6th avenue and we are in the big tan building.

From Points East

Take the George Washington bridge. Merge onto route 80 west. Exit at exit 60 which is route 20 north. Stay on rte 20 and left exit at 5th avenue. Make a left on fifth. Go over the railroad tracks and make the first left onto river street. Make a right on 6th avenue and we are in the big tan building.
