Aloha,

i purchased the original Legacy system when it was introduced years ago, but a series of life events that started with a family illness forced me to pack up my trains and tear down my layout. I never had a chance to use the original Legacy.

Years later and in another home I'm planning a new layout and will be unpacking that original Legacy system the next few weeks.

But how is my original Legacy different from the "new" Legacy #990?

Thanks in advance,

Aloha LSUFAN61,

Thanks for the reply!

Not sure what version, I want to say 1.2, but it's still packed up. Lionel sent me a number of thumb drives too, with the updates I guess, this will be an adventure.

Based on posts I have been reading the Legacy system was out of production and hard to find for the last two years or so, which explains the high level of interest.

I'll be setting up two independent loops, one for the Legacy and one for my old DCS system.  Plus I purchased a Lionchief Plus engine too!  This is going to be fun

until you get out your 990 and see what version it is it will be really hard to tell you what to do.

if it is version 1.0 it will have to go back, however if it has a silver dot it will not have to go back.  but you will have to upgrade it a little at a time.

I can't remember what version it must be in order to get to the current version of 1.52.

990 no sliver dot

the good new is Lionel will do the upgrade for nothing except what it costs you to send it to lionel.

keep us posted.

I jumped from 1.0 to 1.52 without any issue on my 993 CAB-2 (The base was the 1.0 problem, not the CAB-2) However I do believe the preferred method was 1.2 >1.3 >1.52

There is virtually no difference between the original Legacy sets and the new ones. The delay was caused by a lack of internal parts, but eventually suitable substitutes were found

Kelunaboy,

Legacy and DCS will run on the same track without any issues; they use different operating systems and in general will not interfere with each other (a few TMCC engines have been known to degrade the DCS signal, but there is a fix for that if needed).  I would recommend you set up both loops to run both.  Maybe even have a crossover between the loops to give you more operating options.
