My Base 3 is working well with my Cab2 handhelds as well as the Cab3 app with only a couple of minor isses. However, my Cab 1 handhelds will not pair with the Base3. Checking uTube videos it appears that the procedure is to depress the set button and while holding down the set button depress the number for the channel and a beep should be emitted from the handheld once it pairs. I have tried all three of my Cab1's, changed channels on the Base3 and I can not get the Cab1's to pair with the Base3. Anyone have an idea of what I am doing wrong?

Cab1L or Cab1? Big difference. Blue or Gray?
Cab1, the original TMCC handheld, does not work with the Base 3 unless I am mistaken.
Would it be possible to plug the TMCC base into the Base 3 to permit the original TMCC Cab1s to communicate with the base 3?

Yes, that's supposed to work.
The way I accomplished this:
The TMCC BASE1 is connected to a SER2 with a “Null Modem Cable”! The SER2 is then connected to the New BASE3 with a PDI CABLE. Now I can use a CAB1 to operate the Legacy & TMCC Engines !
Works Great!!
I would refer you to a POST Dated 8/3/24 Titled: BASE3 & TMCC/CAB1 Signaling Problem !!!
Concur with Fredstrains.
I purchased the null modem cable, SER 2, and a PDI cable and the Cab 1 works perfectly.
There you go ……
Thanks, I will order the cables.
I have the same problem in the opposite direction. Wanting new Base3 w/App to talk to my ZW-C to turn on track power using its internal powerhouse function. Would this serial connection allow that?

No. Lionel is aware of this issue and are working on it.
To @Fredstrains
I have tried searching this forum for the 8/3/24 post BASE3 & TMCC/CAB1 Signaling Problem !!! that you mention, but can't find it. Would you (or anyone else who knows it) please post a direct link? Thanks in advance.
Chuck
Don’t know the procedure for that !!! Have never done that before , but will try!
Maybe someone could POST the Procedure for me !!
Fredstrains
You will find that POST on Page 4: BASE3 & TMCC/CAB1 Signalling Problems.
Fred,
I've just tried to find the thread you've mentioned using our Forum's Search feature.
No luck.
What worked for me was this instead: BASE3 and TMCC/CAB1 signaling problems
Unfortunately, to a search engine "Signalling" and "Signaling" are two different things.
You can click on this link to go to directly to the page:

As Chuck said, not a problem.
All of have a spelling challenge from time to time.

I digress too much perhaps, but I read the link and the one guy was overjoyed he could now run his trains with his Cab1, 1L, 2& 3.
Are you an octopus, why would you even want to complicate your life trying to remember how to do all that. Haha just kidding, but all this Cab3 seems to over complicate running a model train layout. I lost interest after TMCC, but I understand a lot of people want to be on the cutting edge of technology. Not my thing, i avoid apps, not really sure what they are. haha I do love my Cab1, TPC , 135 power brick to run my std gauge trains, not giving that up, but that is as far as I go with it. Again, it’s a model train layout, why does it have so hard. But alas, perhaps I digress too much.
Cheers, W1

William,
it’s like you say: I just like being on the Cutting edge of all the “NEW” Technology!!!

PS…….I was the one “GUY” mentioned in you Post above! LOL
Thank you guys for the Null modem cable, SER2. and the PDI cable info. My CAB1 (original) works well with the base 3; however, it has reminded me of why I switched to the CAB2 as soon as I did. I am spoiled by the 100 verses the 32 speed steps to control engines. However, one CAB1 is used now as my TMCC crane / boom car controller for which it runs well. My other two CAB1s will be used for visitors who do not want to use the app and my three CAB2s are running trains. with my 7 loops with 2 trains per loop as well as a 4 track loop yard, I can use all my handhelds with a little help from my friends. ps I still have eight DCS handhelds so I can have one dedicated to each train instead of switching engines on the same controller as I usually do on my CAB2s.
