I recently used sheets of green translucent acetate to add a more realistic window tint to my MTH Metra cars.

Next on my list is improving MTH’s Amfleet cars. I’ve looked all over for a smoke colored acetate sheet with no success. Does anyone have suggestions on what to use and where to find a product to add a dark tint to the Amtrak car windows? Thanks!!

As Railride suggested, try spray window tint.  You can pick it up at an automotive store or, maybe a big box store.  About $8.  I would spray it on an actetate sheet rather than the actual window strip.  Good luck.

Actually, I was thinking of pre-tinted window film. It's the only way I've ever seen it done. There was a company servicing the R/C model hobby (it may have been RaM or something to that effect) that offered pre-tinted stick-on film for Lexan-bodied race cars.

Spraying the stuff on is a new one to me, and brings up questions of how would one insure even coverage since one would want to be able to see through the end result to an extent.
