Please visit my friends at the North Schuylkill High Railers Model Train layout in the Schuylkill Mall. Located in Frackville, PA at the intersection of State Rt 61 and Interstate 81.
It's a very large "O" scale layout 24'x55' 3 levels tall. We run mostly MTH DCS engines, up to 12 trains running at once. There is also an Old School Lionel Tinplate layout, like the kind your Dad may have put up at Christmas time. We even have trolleys and an old time Anthracite Colliery that dumps coal into the hopper cars.
We will be OPEN every Sunday from now until Christmas from 12-5pm. Please email me via malltrains@gmail.com if you plan on coming up on December 13th. We are short handed that day and I want to be sure we are open before you make the trip.
The layout is based on the Mahanoy Valley from the Buck Mt. Tunnel thru Mahanoy City, St. Nicholas, Gilberton, Mahanoy Plane, Girardville, and Ashland. We run mostly Steam engines with real train sounds and puffing smoke. Occasionally a large double headed Diesel train pulling up to 40-50 cars.
The railroads represented are mostly the Reading RR and some of the Pennsy RR.
The layout is located in the Blum's Auction end of the Mall. If you come in the mall where the bank is located we are right there in the mall on the right side. Admission is by donation of just $1. We are run totally by volunteers so other donations are welcome.
We are here on Facebook as North Schuylkill High Railers. Also have several videos on youtube. Search "Frackville Trains" and you will find the videos.
Hope to see some of you there, Dave.
