MTH DCS; Do you need to isolate all rails entering program track of just the center rai
Replies sorted oldest to newest
No just the center rail...... A programming can be any old track were you can place the engine so that no other engines are receiving power anywhere on the layout.... Must have a good dcs track signal at that location.
Is setting up a program track the same for TMCC? Isolating the center rail?

No you really don't need a programming track for TMCC engines.. Each engine has a run/program switch that one would use for programming the engines. A little different than DCS but same results.
I have had DCS on my layout over a year before it was released. I have always added engines on the rails. If your layout has good signal, an engine will add anywhere on your layout. I do this with no other engines powered up on the same track.
Marty,

My experience has been the same. Engines add wherever I put them on the rails.

I've added engines with several powered up at once, some in the remote and some not, and haven't had any issues. You just need to have enough juice for all of the engines that are on powered tracks.
You are correct Barry. Today engines can be added with others on the rails. I had to do it with nothing else present on the rails way back and just kept the habit. Big power is king on the rails today. We are very lucky to have today's high powered transformers.
Gentlemen,
Marty is absolutely correct, however I used a Programming Track for years, so that I did not have to remove my other engines from the rails, especially with the older TIU's. Now with TIU Rev L and the Z4K Transformers, I have been leaving the engines and programming from the rails, without any problems. If I had the room however I would still have a programming track, I like em.
