A picture of BK & Matt Jackson at the Angels Gate Hi-Railers in San Pedro, CA, on Wednesday, June 26.  BK and I paid a two-hour+ visit and we were warmly welcomed by Matt and a few other club members.  The Angel Gate guys have a great track plan, great electrics, and are really progressing on their scenery.

Matt ran TMCC  trains through his phone with BK's Android App.  (There's a thread on the Android phone App on the Forum.)  A very successful outing!

Angels Gate:  Worth a visit!

They indeed have a great layout, and being a stone's throw from the surf is a plus.

I haven't paid them a visit in quite a long time, and Matt and a couple of the other's I met are great people.  Would like to meet up with Matt and the guys again, although I have to admit I do harbor a bit of resentment over Matt's consideration to betray and defect from his esteemed club and the rest of us Southern Californians by wanting to retire to that cowpoke state called Texas of all places.

I've already disowned John P. for his equally treasonous actions when he defected to the East Coast a couple of years back.

I guess in John's case at least I'm safe from him being able to force-feed me Scrapple sandwiches whenever I visit the club layout again.

Great photos (a lot better than the ones I take.) It was great having you guys stop by. Sorry you were subjected to our infamous freeway traffic getting down to the club. If you have a Saturday free, drop by and bring a train. You can "play chicken" with us on the mountain branch.

BTW, Bob K's App is great. I finished configuring my old smart phone to use as a TMCC remote and I have all of my TMCC engines in it. Awesome.

I'm planning to drop by San Diego as soon as things cool off here at the office. I think I'll bring down a couple of scale-wheeled engines and run them on the two O gauge layouts at the museum.

That is a beautiful layout.  I love the container ship.....who built it??  WOW!!!

I will always remember how kind Matt was a few years ago sending me a much needed snow plow for one of my locomotives....and he did so for free!!!  Thanks again Matt!!  Since you will be moving within a reasonable driving distance to my place, we will have to get together....  It would be an honor to have you visit the layout..

Thanks for the kind words Alan. The container ship was built by John Pignatelli. A lot of people don't realize this, but he was the chief model maker for the LA Maritime Museum and has built several commissioned models, including a submarine for President George H.W. Bush, and models for the movies "Titanic" and "Godzilla". He also built the dock warehouse and car float on the layout.

The container ship itself is actually a 6-foot model that would be used for an H.O. container ship, but John built it as a small "puddle jumper" (coastal ship) which hauls small container shipments along the coast to docks with cranes. The containers are 40-foot O scale cans -- MTH and K-Line. Member Chuck Bradford is a technician at the Port of Los Angeles and managed to track down a couple of O scale container lifts to complete the scene.

John....thanks for the info on the ship.  Looks like you did a fantastic job!!  I went to the Scale Shipyard site but no picture of the ship.  Do you have any other pictures showing more of it?.....if you like, you can e-mail more details to me directly.  Just use the e-mail in my profile.

Thanks!

Alan

John:

I think he still has it. His catalog shows an H.O. (1/96) Container ship which shows dimensions that match the one you built for us. It also looks like he [still] has your Bismark and submarine molds. Did he get the tugboat mold, too? He's offering one in O scale.

I fondly remember the Bismark mold. Helped you lug the thing out of the van years ago.

Well that is good news, yes I gave him the tug boat hull, both sizes, the 85' and the 120'

I kept a few of the tug copies, I should have made some more copies of the container ship, o'well. I will just have to buy one back. That will hurt!

Do you have a link to the app? It sounds cool.

We are truly blessed at AGHR to have a guy like Matt. We need to start a campaign to keep him in LA. He has been threatening to defect to the Lone Star State for some time. If he leaves, then I will have the unenviable task of sifting through all the spaghetti under the layout when something goes wrong. STAY MATT.

Jeff, Caretaker of AGHR if Matt leaves

Great looking layout.  Haven't been down for a visit in quite a while.

Matt, sorry to hear we are losing you to Texas.

John P., glad to see you posting.  Lost track of you for a while.

Not many guys left in my world to talk shop with about DCS but I'm still getting by.  Can always count on the forum to get answers.

Ray
