Now that Radio Shack is dead where can we get the small project boxes like the 270-1805?
They were great for isolated toggles or gauges.
I got all that I could but the shelves are bare around here.
Thanks, Tom Tee

I get my project boxes at Fry's
Or Mouser?
A company in Needham Mass called "You do it Electronics" All high end switches, LED's, and gauges. They have hundreds of project boxes. That is where I get them. Everything is very high quality and priced right. I always did my best to stay clear of RS switches.
I knew they were closing some stores(again). I did not know they were out of business.

They aren't, unless someone has inside information to the contrary. They just declared bankruptcy, again. Not the same as out of business. Things aren't looking good though.

As of late last week, the Gresham, OR Radio Shack still had the lights on and doors open, I will have to watch closer when I go by on my way to and from work. But honestly, I haven't been in a Radio Shack in a LOOOONG time. Any more they always seem to be out of anything that I did go there to buy, and the "Sales Staff" were very knowledgeable, IF all you wanted were cell phones, ask about almost any other product and you just got a blank stare. The days of old when the employees actually knew more than how to plug a charger into a cell phone are long gone.

One of the recent announcements cites something like another 100-200 stores (I forget the exact number in the article).
One can infer whatever they want, but there are still over a thousand not closing at this time.
The radio shack web site actually clearly says which stores are closing and which are not (at least if you search by a zip code, it's not like there is a ordered list of all stores posted).

Search eBay for "plastic project box". I get 2700 hits. Here's a typical one, 85 cents shipped.
Plastic Electronic Project Box Instrument case DIY 100x60x25mm
and another a bit larger, $1.94 shipped.
Waterproof Plastic Cover Project Electronic Case Enclosure Box 125x80x32mm
And the list goes on and on...
Agree with GRJ. I bought a handful of project boxes from the auction site several years ago. Good quality, decent prices, and free shipping (for that particular seller). Shop around.
Thanks guys! R/S can now R.I.P. That was the one product I could confidently purchase from them.
The only thing I will miss is the optional aluminum cover plate supplied with each R/S box.
These little boxes are great. One of things i have used them for the most is cutting them up to get the female portion of the screw posts. I use them when repairing or modifying rollings stock. Ie- that tender shell need to go on a new frame and there are no mounting provisions? - No problem. glue the female posts into the corners of the shell, drill mating holes in the frame and you are good to go!

If I need a post repair, I just use a short piece of either brass tubing, or even plastic tubing. I fill it with JB-Weld and drill a hole of the size I need. I've repaired a lot of shells this way.
Here are two other websites that have boxes and other electronics.

Goldmine has the cheesy clear plastic boxes at very high prices, those are pretty useless for project boxes. MPJA has some decent looking options, both plastic and metal.
