I have an A-B-A K-Line set of F-3s that have Rail Sound and TMCC. I may be getting an MTH dummy B unit unpowered. Will the Rail Sound and TMCC work if the teather is not connected through the MTH B unit or do I need to put A K-Line teather through the MTH B unit? Thank you for any help and take care. I am pretty sure the tether has to be connected. These have motors in both A units, no? The serial data line has to connect to the second A for the motors and coupler. You can verify this yourself by simply disconnecting the tether.

I think the sound and drive is in the lead A-Unit. Of course, you will have a problem with the lights and couplers of the trailing A-Unit as it won't have any input...
There are version of the F-3 with powered trail A and even both with Cruise. So yes you have to have a 10 pin connector to tether any thing you put between the units. G
At this point it would probably help to know exactly what set he has.
Thank you everyone for the help and information! I talked to A Friend/fellow model rail roader last night. The MTH B unit will not work with the K-Line units. It is back to trying to find A matching B unit from K-Line with A 4 prong connection. Thanks again for the help and take care. Choo Choo Kenny
You could come up with a 4-pin compatible feed-thru cable and use it, you just have to connect the two like this one wasn't there.
Thanks GRJ but where could I find such an item 12in long? Choo Choo Kenny
I'd probably just find the connectors and make one.
