i had heard somewhere a long while back that the railking sd90mac tooling is the same as the williams sd90mac that MTH sold the tooling to bachmann. is this true?
or could have lionel purchased the tooling for the lionchief RTR line like the dash 8 and consolidation?
i saw the CAT sd90 at my hobby shop and really wanted it but it was above my budget for that day and its probably gone now. it was the black version that would have been perfect for the Mid-National Rail-lines

Definitely not true the early SD90 was way smaller and they never made a Railking SD90 that matched the Williams.

I'm not sure lionel would feel a need for it, they have a semi-scale lionmaster SD90 that already runs 0-31, so unless they felt they needed another cheap locomotive (besides the dash 8, et44ac, gp38, rs3, etc) I would think they would be fine with the two versions of sd90 they have already.

That Williams tooling is still held by Kader, the holding company that owns Bachmann. To my knowledge, Kader has never sold its tooling, choosing to either store it for potential use by another company on contract or simply retire the tooling altogether.
Given that Lionel has no need for this model, I suspect it will stay in storage or be discarded at some point.
