Hi Everyone,

I have one of the early 5v PS2 Y6Bs - one of my favourite engines. I have been thinking about looking for an Imperial version which appears to have been done twice - 2007 and 2010?

My question is simple are the 2 imperial versions the same or do you get more with the later model - the catalogue I saw for the earlier one showed no separate marker lights for instance - was this the case?

Comments would be welcome. Needles to say there are none here in the Uk so I will have to search your side of the pond to find one!!

I have a Railking PS2 Y6B.  It was the second O-gauge loco I bought (2007) and the first articulated O-gauge loco I owned.  I still have it and its one of the few non-scale locos I have kept since I have gone to all scale stuff.  I love it and will never let it go.  It is bulletproof, just a superb little runner and nothing upsets it, not tight curves, rough track, etc.  All the traction tires have broken off it after six years and many hundred hours of running.  It still pulls hard without them, aided by a bit of frog- snot.

I have the 2010 Imperial Version. It was done both as a seperate sale engine and in the special set with engine, 4 hoppers and caboose. I bought the set. The 2007 version has a slightly different sound file which includes the "off beat" chuffing (which I prefer). Detail wise, they are the same although there is possibly one or two very little differences.

It is a terrific engine. Looks great, runs great, sounds great. The N&W Hooter whistle is dead on accurate.

Don't trust the catalog photos for an accurate representation. See page 14 of the 2010 V. 2 catalog for an accurate "live" photo of the engine in the early pages where the different categories of the Railking line are described.

Like Lee, I mainly run scale locomotives now. But when I first got into this hobby, I purchased a number of RK steam locomotives, a GN Y6B among them. I have discontinued running most of them with the exception of a RK Imperial UP 4-8-4 and my Y6B which also is an Imperial. They both run like swiss watches, sound great, and looked right at home on my previous layout. I've got no plans to get rid of them or to stop running them. RK Imperials truly give you great bang for the buck.

The 2007 Imperial version has the out-of-sync sounds and it is quite realistic.

Bobby, if yours is a PS-2 3v version you should be able to load the same soundfille and get the same effects.
