I have wanted Adam-12 on my layout for ages, but it took a long time to find a diecast car even remotely like Adam-12 (and no, with apologies to AMCDave, it's not going to be the AMC Matador from the final season).  I found this White Rose '69 Plymouth - a Wisconsin State patrol car and frankly a pretty poor model (but only $11), and felt it was close enough - at least 'til I can find something better. When it arrived in the mail it was blue and white not black and white as it looked on the site where i bought it, butd I repainted the blue portions black, including the interior, removed the WSP logos and put the closest I could get to the LA Police seal and slogan on the door, and of course the 012 on the roof.    Anyway, here are Reed and Malloy - cops # 63 and 64 on the layout now - putting the car to good use blocking the get-away of  Big Bike Bob who they just caught at the trailer park with 200 feet of stolen copper pipe from Harrison's Hardware under a tarp in the back of his pickup.

Excellent. One thing we always had a chuckle about, was that they were designated out of "Rampart Division", which should have given them the call 2-Adam-12. (2 designating the division, "A" Adam, designating them as a 2 man patrol car, and 12 their patrol car number. "1" would designate they worked out of "Central".

Loved the show, and it was the last 1/2 hr dramatic series on TV.

Yeah, but I'm out of Navy blue paint and the officers I bought were . . . . well you know.

Yes, or it will be when I find a diecast Firebird Esprit - everyone makes only the Trans Am.

ME TV Channel 11-2 Pittsburgh, PA currently does an hour each weekday of Adam 12.  Previously it was Dragnet/Adam 12, both Jack Webb productions. As mentioned followed with an hour of Emergency. Vintage late 1960's early 1970's  I owned a 1972 and 1975 D150 Dodge truck so the Emergency D300 squad is a look back in history. The Adam 12 police cars are may be 68/69 Plymouth Fury's

It looked like a '69 Fury at first glance. I've found many road runner models, but have never seen any four door Plymouths. I'm kinda fimilar with that body style.

Love it. I grew up in Los Angeles and used to watch that show religiously. Jack Webb had a great relationship with LAPD and the cars they used in the show were actually spec LAPD radio cars (minus the real radio gear) that were added to the LAPD fleet order (obviously paid for by the studio). Kent McCord also often appeared as Officer Reed in Dragnet.

None of the "LA-based" police shows that followed held a candle to Dragnet and Adam-12.

First new "detectives" in ages ....

Of course Reed and Malloy are Patrolmen and Patrolmen deserve proper recognition.  Jack Webb and Robert Cinader did a wonderful job of depicting good patrolling with Adam 12.  I have yet to find an author who gives Patrolmen their due as well as David Ziskin.  In his book The Real Police he says

Patrolling is the basic activity of policing.....There is more to it than is readily apparent, and the real professionals make it look easy.  They take an intense personal interest in their district.  They lever their numbers by appearing in unlikely places and by seeming to be a constant presence.  They drive very slowly and look at everything.  They greet citizens, stop frequently, talk to all kinds of people and make themselves accessible and approachable.  This type of activity has the serendipitous quality of seeming benign to law-abiding citizens while, at the same time, it looks like prowling and stalking to the bad guys.  What most people view as a reassuring presence, the bad guys view as unrelenting pressure.

It is a great read and I highly recommend it to fans of Patrolmen Reed and Malloy.
