Hi all,

I purchased a pair of vestibules for some Madison cars I got but there's one little problem

the original paint has been covered with gold paint so you guy's think I could get the gold

paint off and get to the original tuscan color. it looks like the gold paint is coming off anyway

but I have it have them in hand it see. Oh by the way I purchased a bottle of Floquil tuscan for

$8.95 a bottle! ouch!

You may have to strip all the paint off.

Is there a way you can determine what the gold paint is? Acrylic, spray enamel or lacquer?

If its acrylic you can use isopropyl alcohol. It will still etch the base coat paint and remove decals, but you can wash prime and paint very easily.

enamel or lacquer there are many products out there that can remove the paint, but they are pretty aggressive stuff. I would use mineral spirits or turpentine in a pan/bucket and leave outside. Remember to remove all parts off of the shell. Then wash with white vinegar, or soap and water, dry, prime and paint.
