I was just out at the RR-Track site and noticed they are now selling version 5.0. I am just wondering if anyone has bought it and is it worth it.

Looking at the changes not sure if its really worth the upgrade, but maybe I am missing something

I just ordered the upgrade . $39 + $7 shipping. I've been using RR-Track for several years now, and have been very satisfied with it. Version 5 looks to be a major update to the basic program. From what I read about the upgrade, it should be a bit more easy to use. The CD that the individual customer gets will upgrade all the existing libraries that are in the ver. 4 program-- that's why they need the serial number when it's ordered, so that the CD will upgrade all the libraries. I'll be posting a review once I get it installed on my win 7 machine.

I got 2 emails back from RRTrack. One email that said it took my order. The other email was from their mailserver that said the order with my serial number in it was not deliverable.

Both had my telephone number in it so that should be good enough for the upgrade, but they do need to get their act together to take orders properly.
I'm confused. Why do you need serial number(s) to be able to upgrade all of your libraries? I've had two copies of RR-track and purchased a couple of additional libraries on the side. When I lost my "original" copy, I ended up buying another and the libraries that I had before installed fine on the new copy. What serial number are you using RR-Track or the libraries or both?

Could someone who has the upgrade please summarize some of the new features that make it a worthwhile upgrade? Thanks!
Could someone post a review, or at least a synopsis of what is new? I just finished laying my track (which I designed w RRTrack 4) so I don't have a strong need for it. However, it might be helpful as I make modifications to have a newer version to archive things. There are a number of things that are clearly not-well-executed in the previous version and I was wondering if they were improved.

I just found this thread and apparently the upgrade price expires soon. I am a registered user and I never received an email informing me of a new version or informing me of a limited period upgrade - not a good business practice.

Any thoughts on the upgrade?
Simulation mode was enough to get me to buy it. I've been using this for a while and have bought multiple libraries, in multiple scales. Too bad, I never noticed bundles. Even though I've spent more than the cost of the all library version, Russ wouldn't negotiate a better price on my buying all libraries after the fact. I may try again, if the upgrade doesn't have all my libraries. It's gonna be a bear finding all my library files and passkeys.
The ad for the simulation mode pushed me to buy it. It's nice; should be very good to check for track separation on curves and avoiding side swipe, etc. It's basic, looking down from above as the simulated train travels the layout. It seems to follow reality - you may be able to place a large steamer on a loop of O36, but the train won't move! Interestingly though, I ran some of the CTT contest winner layouts you could download from the RR-Track, an one of them caused the simulation to crash.
I wish that it had the simulation mode. When I designed my first big layout - I never thought about the overhang. I loved the fact that Altas track has a series of concentric diameters 9" apart. I thought having adjacent tracks of radii 36", 45" 54" would look great! I thought (naively) that the 9" was designed to avoid the overhand problem. Now I have to limit myself to shorter engines and cars.
It has to be 5 or more years ago when I talked to Russ at York and told him about a program I had that ran on the old MS-DOS system where you could design a layout, then makeup trains to put on the track, and run them around on it.

He said then: "we're working on it".

I marvel at these guys. This had to be hard to do.

I ordered the upgrade even though my layout drawing is complete, just for that feature alone. It is fun to play with.
