Need some input here, just bought a used Lionmaster BigBoy 2010 with Legacy and Whistle Steam. (6-11208). When I first put it on my test track it just started up and sat there with just sounds and I couldn’t get it to program into my Cab 1. The sounds were a bit staticky and even with the smoke switch set to off it was running the smoke motor. Headlight was blinking occasionally so thought poor signal.

Fast forward I got a new piece of track out figuring it may have been a dirty piece of track and re ran all the wire connections. Right now I have a Lionel power brick powering my TIU fixed IN and then the TMCC brick to the negative Fixed out on the TIU then to the test track piece.

Now when I flip the power the engine immediately wants to take off full speed and I have to kill the power immediately. This is both in Program and Run modes. I only have a few lengths of test track so it’s not long I get to keep the power on. Previous owner said they only ever ran conventional and never command. I currently don’t have a means of running conventional here so I need some other possibilities. Going to try to take it to the train store today and test on conventional but figured I would ask here for some other input.

Also I should say I have never opened an engine so if I do not sure what I should be looking for lol. Thanks all.

Edit: So it does work fine in conventional. All features work. I brought my TMCC Cab 1 set up to the store and can’t get it to respond to any resets or assigning it an ID or anything.

Command base works with my other Legacy engine fine.

Do you have other locomotives that work fine with your TMCC equipment?

Yes my Legacy 0-6-0 connected up, but it was a bit finicky to get it to connect aswell but I eventually got it to work.

Well, the fact that it takes off when you're attempting command mode, and you can't program it, I suspect you have an issue with either the antenna connection (handrails) or the RCDR TMCC receiver.  The RCDR is not available, so hope it's an antenna issue.

It was only taking off here at home so may be just my 40” piece of track on the floor. I could put it in program mode at the train store and it stayed in neutral but still taking my Cab 1 setup up there wouldn’t acknowledge the remote. Also in program mode shouldn’t the engine not fire up with sounds? Or does it fire up with sounds. I know when I programmed my new Legacy 0-6-0 it was silent in program mode till the whistle blew when I added it.
I’m hoping for an antennae issue aswell but we will see. I ended up having him take it to his Lionel repairmen so we shall see.

Hard to do when I currently don't have a physical layout at the moment which is currently under construction. I am just working with my test track section. Only reason it went up to the store was because I was told by someone else to try it in conventional mode and I don't currently have a way to test conventional and the store did.

There shouldn't be anything "finicky" when programming.

You slide the run/pgm switch to pgm, power up the track and push ENG 18 set. The whistle will blow and you'll get idle steam sounds.

( I'm using 18 as an example, it can be whatever number you choose. Most people use the first 2 or Last 2 digits on the cab)

Then remove power and slide the run/pgm switch to run. Power up the track and address the loco. I.E. ENG 18, and it should operate as designed from the remote.
