WE will be moving in November. The layout will be broken down and moved, and other than being a heartbreaking task it will survive to run in the new location. This is prompting me to go through all my stuff and get rid of pieces I will not use. I’ve never sold anything on the forum before so I’m asking for some guidance.  What’s the protocol?   For example, I have 15 Ross switches NIB.  Do I post them here or in the buy/sell forum, or both?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Post in the for sale forum.

Put everything in one ad.

You may attract hesitant buyers by having multiple items they want.

Look at your items on eBay.  Refine the search to completed sales.  Look only at sales with multiple bids,  the more bids, the more likely it actually sold.

Price your stuff aggressively under ebay if you want it to sell quickly.  Current stuff that a lot of people can use like the Ross switches will bring good money especially if new.  The more obscure road names will need a deep discount.  Whereas NYC,  PRR,  UP , SF, Southern,  NS, CSX, etc will have far more buyers.

If you're moving in Nov I'd say you better get busy now

As for protocol, first of all, do not try to post items for sale on this 3-rail forum. That’s against the terms of service.

Second, follow the rules in the for-sale forum. Information is listed there.

Concerning a sale strategy, I would list items separately by category — for example, locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars and track.

If you are not already set up with PayPal, you may want to consider that for payments.

I have sold a few things here and bought a lot.    I think it is a good site with a more focused audience than Ebay.    I personally feel uncomfortable dealing on Ebay.    I read some of the ads and it is obvious that the seller has not knowledge of what he is selling or is flat out lying based on the photos.

My experience is that selling stuff on the For Sale forum can be hit or miss.

One exception, though, is Ross turnouts and Gargraves track.  Priced fairly, this sells really quickly.

I listed my Ross turnouts separately, but bundled the track, curves, and bumpers into separate lots.  I think I sold everything within a week.

I even sold spools of unused wire as a lot and all of terminal blocks (had a lot of these as I set up the layout as a conventional layout) as a lot.
