On this weeks episode, he bought a pocket watch because it made him look like a train conductor.

Two threads today on this episode!!! And we had 3-4 when it first aired.....at least it's not the German train layout!!!!

On the new episode tonight, he bought a pocket-watch because it made him look like a train conductor. I love this show.

It would be nice if folks would at least scan the first page or two of topics before entering a new (duplicate) one.

I realize, of course, that's a bit much to ask.

Then again, thread topics are often so cryptic that it's difficult to even tell if one is duplicating a particular topic. Folks may eventually learn that a truly descriptive title conveys a whole lot more useful information than a supposedly clever one.

But that German layout still holds the all-time record for this sort of multiple thread thing.

Without a doubt, he is the best character on TV since Cosmo Kramer! ANd the show is hysterical!

The Cosmo Kramer character is the best ever. I still laugh when I watch those reruns.

Yes, we do, because it's not the fault of the many who unknowingly responded to one or the other. I'm not able to combine the two into one thread. There may be a way to do it (Rich would know), but I'm not about to fuss around with all those little admin. controls today.

It looks like total crap to me.

Not sure if I should feel offended or not. Tolerance for anything non-mainstresm has not been good in our society, at least as far as I've observed.

That said I'm not a viewer of this show. Modern Family gets my nod for best sitcom right now.

Your question had already been answered several posts before you even posted it (more than once)... lol

And best sitcom right now (for me), hands-down, goes to Happy Endings. It's a little too fast paced for most people though. It's like squeezing an hours worth of comedy into a half-hour. After that I would go with Big-Bang Theory, and then Modern Family.

I haven't heard of Happy Endings or Modern Family. What network? Since I got a DVR, I haven't seen a commercial or promo for anything. And that was around six years ago!

SB.. I beg to differ. My question was what comment prompted Sheldon's comment "becuse it makes me look like a train conductor", and by whom was that comment made. The correct answer is not that he bought a pocket watch because it made him look like a conductor, but rather Penny, who said: That Pocket Watch is ridiculous.

OK, next question, With whom would Sheldon be most likely to side with on this forum? Scale Modelers? or Toy Train Enthusiasts?

They are both ABC shows on Thrusday nights. Happy endings is kinda like Friends, except......well.....funny. It has some serious comedic talent on board. And the characters get funnier the more you get to know them.

Maybe RMT can come out with a new larger engine and call it the "Big Bang" in honour of the show.

I totally gave up on sitcoms until my son turned me on to the Big Bang Theory. It's smart, well written and just plain funny. Penny is an absolute doll though a little bit on the permissive side. Just the kind of girl most of us would of been attracted to in our younger days.

As for Sheldon, yes he over the top, that's what makes him so funny. But, he is more of a man then most of the TV "mush heads" we are subjugated to. He has an opinion and dose not mind expressing it and when the time comes he stands up for himself.

As for the shows title, eh-I'm not so sure about that. I'm more of a "Steady State" guy.

On at least one episode we get a glimpse of an O-gauge train set. Can anyone identify the engine and cars?

I really like Big Bang. The group of scientist nerds and I share some common interests: trains, comic Books [DC of course!], Sci Fi, etc.

It is well written and I just have to wonder where they get these scientific bantor dialogues from...

There are 100s of quotes on their the website - knowing the characters and reading them make me laugh out loud...

I know Big Bang is a popular show, but I've tried to watch it a few times and I haven't found it worth watching.

I'm a sci-fi fan, as well as trains, and I used to read comic books as a kid, so I did enjoy the occasional sci-fi in-jokes.

But, the overall tone of the show and most of the humor is very sophomoric, so the occasional nod to sci-fi, trains, comics, etc. didn't make up for the rest of the show for me.

Come to think of it, I don't watch any sitcoms. I tried to watch a few of them, but I didn't enjoy them.

In one of the DVD extra features, they mention that the scientific banter is provided by some real physicists (physics professors from some university, I think) employed by the show as consultants.

It just adds to the charm of the show for me. And here I thought the two physics classes I had in high school and the 4 levels of physics I took in college weren't useful for anything...

On a humorous side note, after I turned my family on to this show, my niece and nephews started calling me "Uncle Sheldon" (though I can't imagine why ).

I really don't watch any primetime sit-coms ... so I just discovered the show as re-runs of it are now on cable. I, too, think its really funny ... all 5 characters.

I never watch it until it started re-running on TBS and I love it - it is the only 30 minute comedy show in years that will make me laugh out loud. I also have know real people whose personalities parallel the shows characters and once dated a Penny type - she could have been Penny's sister they looked and acted so much alike.

But on the other hand I never could watch The Office cause I once had a office manager just like that one and I totally despised the man.I left the job for one that paid the same just to get away from him.

its one of my favorite shows too and the engine is a "rugged rails" railking F-3 blue warbonnet colors as for the cars i didn't pay too much attention oh well.

Not likely - when Sheldon wears a licensed Green Lantern shirt it is paid for - put it on something not licensed and you pay dearly.

i just started watching the show in reruns.
i think he has a santa fe engine in o scale.i don't remember what the cars are.
i also remember one show. he was going to relocate to a town that was near some model train stores.if someone knew a magazine publisher. they could probably get an interview with the actor for a small story. i'd also bet that if a rail car was painted with the green lantern on it and sent to the producers of the show it would pop up one day on a show...rob

My wife watches Big Bang Theory & I occasionally watch with her.
Mostly I avoid TV as I consider it a media designed to drain your brain of useful thoughts.
The draw for the show has been stated in prior posts and I like the geek factor in it.
Perhaps I see it this way because I am also a GEEK. Yes capitol letters, I enjoy the status. How much?
A couple Christmas's ago my Parents-in-Law gave me a Sweatshirt that states "I'm sorry, I don't know any words small enough for you to understand."
They did this because I frequently attempt to teach them some basic electronics or Computer maintenance.
