Show us your RICO Stations

Here you go, Sam.

Somewhere on here, not found in a search under several topics, is a photo of a

kitbash I did of a Rico station, to reduce it down to Plasticville size, and to flip the

freight section to the other end. I did find the topic, "modifying the Lionel Rico

Station" which can be pulled up and reviewed.

Very nice, as always, Brian. Is your 'Rico' the cast aluminum issue?

I have used mine in a western town environment.

Rico Station on a Shelf Layout

This is the Rico Station, on my shelf layout. This is the East End Turnaround, on the main line. The shadows are from the two elevated lines that run above the Rico Station.

Yes, it is the aluminum version, Jon. This is one of my great York finds. New in box for $ 125.00. It is a beautiful train station and fits in well with this portion of the layout.

That was a great find and those stations are a gem!

I'm still trying to talk myself into picking up one of them.  I even have a location picked out.

Sam, this thread sure hit some wonderful interest in an old favorite of mine. Thanks for all of the great photos posted so far.

Here's my Lionel Rico station. Doesn't look much like the rest of all y'alls depots.

Mine has been kitbashed to use on an old On30 layout I had. Ditched the layout, but couldn't bare to part with this station, even though it doesn't fit on my current tiny O-gauge layout

Gap near bay window was filled with more of the masonry look plastic from the kit. I've lost it someplace.

Used Evergreen vertical siding for the gables and reworked wainscoting.

The freight shed took up too much room, so I left it off. I glued its end wall to the gap in the station. I like Andy's solution to the size problem.

Every time I think I've done something unique, such as kitbash Plasticville, and this

Rico station, I find on here fantistically imaginative kitbashes such as Bob Karas',

Handyandy's, and many more above with similar ideas, that have made a very

recognizable kit unrecognizable...Good jobs, guys.

Ok, you guys have twisted my arm!  These are beautiful buildings and I just purchased one for my layout.  Everytime I visit this forum, it costs me money!  Lol

   I am going to post the photo again so the readers will understand your question.

My Rico Station was not painted.

I used Testors Spray Dullcote, than washed with india ink, & black chalk. When I liked the look. It was resprayed with Testors Dullcote.

The shadows on the building are from two elevated railroad lines, that pass over the station.

I am in the process of radically modifying two RICO plastic kits at the present time.  I started by cutting down the base and adding an interior floor to the freight portion.

I cut mine in two, and used each portion at a different locale.

When I started getting back into the hobby in 1999 I purchased a well known toy train magazine. The magazine reviewed six layouts and five of them had a Rico station. I thought there was some sort of regulation that required a Rico station on a layout for it to be considered for publication.

Impressive work. Interestingly enough, I had seen more Lionel Rico Stations on 2-rail layouts than 3-rail layouts. We have two on the club layout (nothing really special about the builds), plus a new-in-box TCA kit (we have no idea where that came from).

In doing some research, I came across an oddity. Apparently, when they were designing the Elgin, IL commuter station, the project manager wanted one that looked like the model on his desk. A 12-inch to the foot kit-bash.

My Rico station pulled out of the storage box. Was prominent on my old layout, now too big for my puny garage setup.

Inspiration was from Joe Lesser (whom you SoCal trainheads might remember) and the one on his former layout. Moving a few years ago took a toll in it and it needs a tuneup. Station is lighted and has a Seuthe smoke unit in the chimney stack.

When I first glanced at your photo, I thought that you had made a nice restaurant rather than a RR Station. It would also make a nice house or even A Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shoppe! Do you have any close ups of the station? Nice job Lad!
