Greetings All,
My Lionel side tip car hang up on my Scaletrax switches.I think it is the contacts that make the car tip.its from the late 50's early 60's.
Any fix or just park it or sell it.

Some of the newer switches are not meant for postwar operating freight or passenger cars with the slide shoe pick-up installed on them. There are a few choices, one don't run it, two tape the slide shoe to the frame, or get a better switch.

Redshift, since you are using MTH track, why not try calling MTH and see if their truck with slide shoe assembly is available. The last time I checked they were not. But it is a really nice truck... very well made. I've never had any trouble with the MTH slide shoe truck hanging up on Lionel 027 track. You'd probably really like the MTH Railking side dump cars. They are a little on the big side in my book (I prefer the size of the Lionel postwar design), but they do operate very well and are worth the money.
You'd probably have to do a little minor cobbing to mount the MTH trucks to a postwar Lionel car, but if you like the car, might be worth the effort. Just a thought.
I used to make ramps with a GarGraves track ties so the shoe could slide up & over. Not worth the effort
I really like the early lionel air dumps...3459??? can't remember
There is also a 'solution' that consists of filing down the ends of the contact shoe so they form ramps that would push the shoe up instead of snagging the guard rails.
