Last Saturday I decided to visit one of our local hobby shops to take a closer look at a postwar loco that I had been looking at during several prior visits.  As I examined the glass cases filled with postwar trains along with a couple of other gentleman, the owner mentioned that all "used" trains were 20% off, since it was "Small Business Saturday",  as he pointed to a small sign on an adjacent case.  He added that trains had been "flying off of the shelves" since the store opened that morning.

Fortunately for me, my wife had asked me earlier that day what I wanted for Christmas, and had responded, "yes", when I inquired if a Lionel locomotive would be an "o.k." selection.  Also, fortunately for me, the loco that I was interested in was in excellent condition, and, was still available.  I decided to help my wife with her Christmas shopping, and purchased the locomotive.

Anyone else visit their local hobby shop on Small Business Saturday 2018?

Hi Bob,

A Brunswick, Lionel #2340 GG-1, in excellent condition.  She's a beauty!  One of my close friends (and his Dad!) had one when I was growing up, and I have always loved that engine.

Santa did bring me the green 5 stripe one Christmas, so between the two of us we had both versions to run.  Now, I have both versions, although the stripes on mine have some wear do to handling.

So, nice memories!

Ron,

Sounds great about the ZW-L.  That's a great transformer.

Brad,

She has always been an unsuspecting Raymond Loewy fan - Waring Blender, Coke Bottle...etc.    I think that she is glad to have one present finalized for the holidays.

Tim,

Those really look sharp!  My original Lionel Set had a pickle vat car.  I don't recall ever seeing that handsome vat car.  I stopped at the local hobby store today to get an engine repaired, and the 20% off sale was still ongoing.  I think a lot of baby boomers have been selling off all or part of their collections, since their display cases are overflowing with Postwar items, and the adjoining shelves are jammed as well.  I think that they had 4 Lionelville #60 Trolleys for sale, and, 5 of the black Lionel  crane cars, to mention just a few of the items.

Hopefully, the sale has been good for their bottom line.  I suspect that the margins are higher for items purchased from customers for resale, so it was great to hear that many items moved off of the shelves on Saturday.
