Hey guys. Just some quick pics (my pic quality could be a little better) showing the new Lionel Amtrak E9's. This is a new "special run" set (2020) made for MrMuffins. The Lionel numbers are 2033720 for the set. 2033721 (#405) and 2033722 (#406). My initial reaction is they are a great addition to my small fleet of Amtrak engines and will look great pulling some early Amtrak equipment. I will post additional pics later with a consist on my layout.

Thanks Steve for offering the set. I am not sure if he has anymore available.

Donald

3 Rail, Donald, wow, this is a beautiful set of Amtrak E9’s, great color scheme and the paint finish is stunning. Do they run as good as they look? You mentioned quality could have been a little better, what were your thoughts on the quality build? Also, are both A units powered? In my thinking they’re gorgeous. Thank You very much for the pictures. Happy Railroading

He's talking about the quality of his photo

Outside of the horsepower rating and some other internals, the only way to distinguish and Amtrak E8 from and E9 would be by the road number.  By the time Amtrak inherited them, E8/9s had every sort of modification made to them.  I'd be surprised if any two were exactly alike.  Amtrak numbered their E units in the 200-400 series. While all E9s were numbered in the 400s, E8s road numbers could be found anywhere in the total number range.
