It's Switcher Saturday Time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's SWSAT, you should go take a look, it was lots of fun!
https://ogrforum.com/...rday-2018-october-20

This week we've got PRR #94 doing something very weird, it's pulling a bunch of NYC varnish (passenger) cars around the club layout.  A guy at the club picked up these MTH/Premier passenger cars and they sure do look nice.
The video was taken by my buddy, who has much better video skills than I do.

Also, check out this Porter I saw on daBay the other day, it's got a custom tender which I thought was cool.  I have no connections to the seller, just posting here because I thought it interesting enough to share.

Last up, a repeat of my B&O Plymouth I'm posting since we're knee-deep into the fall season, the picture is just too nice not to share again.  It's one of my favorite pictures that I've taken, so why not reshare?

BnO-Plymouth

I hope everyone has a great weekend, have some switcher fun and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

All the best...Rich Murnane

p.s. Miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

The United States Army Transportation Corps S100 Class is a 060 steam locomotive that was designed for switching use in Europe during the second world war. Many of them has seen a heavy duty in France during the post war time. It seems they are most known here than in their original country. The French designation is 030 TU loco.

The model is a home made one from a kit in O gauge and still needs some details to look right.

Hi Rich and all and Happy Switcher Saturday. Hope everyone in the Northeast stays dry with a Nor'Easter blowing through. Rich, looks like you started up the Penn Central merger in the steam era.  Even if it happened in real life that early, it would have probably still been a disaster.

My contribution is my prewar PRR #228 steam switcher and one of my many Pennsy cabin cars.

Daniel,

Thanks for posting that. My dad was in the US Army in France during WWII and then later on in the war at the Battle of the Bulge. He belonged to the 105th Field Artillery. After the war, his friend got him a job with the New Haven Railroad and he was trained as a fireman to work on steam and diesel. Unfortunately, the railroad life was not for him and he quit. He used to say his shirt pockets were stuffed with paychecks and he never had time to cash them!

Yay! SWSat is on!

This week I am posting a UK Switcher that is probably a bit unusual around here. It is an A1 Terrier from Dapol. As you can see the finish quality is very high and the cost was quite responsible for a 2 rail O scale engine.

There is a huge resurgence in O scale 2rail in the U.K. with enough production that the costs are pretty reasonable. Dapol and Heljans as well as Ixon and Minerva are some of the companies moving into this. The offerings tend to be switchers for self layouts. Exactly what several here on this board  are looking into.

So that is my model and here are my photos of the real thing. Fenchurch has been preserved and restored to this paint scheme. It operates on the Bluebell Railway. Sadly it was not running the day I visited but was the day before. There were 50 A1 Terriers built in the 1880’s to switch close clearance industries and  docks. About 8 still exist. D57C78F2-8230-4E2D-8BD8-5A5195FBDAF7625CFCE4-761E-4AB0-9D3F-32C6D410E7F58018D9F0-EC39-4AE7-8E1F-E7CF26325ECD

Have a great Weekend.

Andy,

That is a beautiful and interesting model. It is almost enough to get me into British 2-rail O scale. What is the track gauge? Do they make this in 3-rail? Is it metal or plastic? Does it have sounds? Have you run it?

MELGAR

I have run it on my tiny test track. It is very quiet. Mine was not sound and DCC equiped because the shop I got it in did not have that version which runs $130 more. It is full O gauge.

They do not make it in 3 rail. The body feels metal to me with some plastic details. It is very heavy for its size. The packaging is the best I have seen in the hobby. There are elevation drawings specific to the engine on the outside of the box.

This is the second run of the Terrier by Dapol the original was their first engine offering in O.  Since then they have made some larger Tank engine offerings. The LMS Jinty has working internal cylinders. Hard to see but a very cool detail to watch.

I just really wanted this one because of the detail, the fact that I had just seen it and that it made such a big splash in British model train magazines which I do enjoy reading. I thought this one would be a good souvenir and can pull my few British cars around with. I am very happy with it and I will be getting some of the other offerings.

I'm happy to join in SWSAT again this week!  Excellent job Rich starting us off with some really cool switchers.  I do want to get a K-Line Plymouth set in Western Maryland livery someday.  Everyone, your photographs and videos are great!  A special thanks to TNKMARX for cluing me in to what to post.  Last week I posted my new to me 0-4-0, which is a very nice runner.  I happened to put it on the lead of the little Halloween display I made using a bunch of stuff my wife picked up at the thrift store.  So here is the #94 with a rather creepy load and engineer!

I’m familiar with the Montour Trail, but I don’t know what rail line it crosses. What railroad is that?

?? Pittsburgh?? and Ohio Central.  I believe part of the Genesee and Wyoming group.

I have walked the Montour trail from Robinson Twp. near the PGH airport toward McKees Rocks. I have never gone the other direction.

Thanks.

had a cold rainy Saturday here so I had no choice but to head downstairs and work on some junk trains that arrived yesterday. About an hour ago I realized I had forgotten about Switcher Saturday...then The Boss wanted to make a run to the store.

Here are some real switchers...

You can get on the Montour trail, not far from the Pittsburgh airport and ride your bike all the way to Washington DC. Montour Trail, at McKeesport, PA, becomes the Great Allegheny Passage/C&O Canal Tow Path trails.
