I am looking to switch a 2 rail atlas engine to 3 rail, what is the process, what do I need to do it? Are the parts avail through Atlas? it is dummy engine, so just need power for the lights etc.... Thanks
If you can find me a Atlas Morristown Erie 19, I will forever be in your debt. I have been looking for over a year, only one that has come up for sale, is a 2 rail on Ebay. very frustrated.
You can go to the Atlas O website and check out their parts diagram to compare the 2 different versions, see what you need, and then send them email about the parts. My guess is you're better off waiting until you can find a 3 rail version.
Perhaps the simplest solution would be to purchase a 3rail version of the model, and swap the shells. Ideally the underframe of the donor engine would match the color needed for your model. Then sell off the unwanted parts on this forum's for sale board or via ebay. You may be surprised to see how much parted out locos can fetch at resale. Frequently quite a bit in my experience. People often need parts for repairs or kitbash projects.
