Having purchased the beautiful Legacy L&N E8s last season, have been curious if there are any suitable passenger cars out there for them. Hopefully, Lionel will eventually produce a matching set but I gather the locomotive's bright blue color isn't quite prototypical although I really like it.

A new visitor to our club a few weeks ago mentioned that he had some MTH F7s (or F3s) and the matching 60' aluminum cars which are quite dark - almost black. He said he also has some Weaver 20" cars that might match mine and offered to bring them over sometime. Bob lives in Hendersonville as does Steve (NYC) Maier so they made the trek together yesterday and Bob brought both sets of cars.

The Weaver cars are very pretty with interiors and passengers and i had not seen them before. The color was pretty and they looked great but not really a match per se.  Handsome train overall however.

What do you guys run with your L&Ns' please?  Post some photos

Sam,

That is one beautiful set! The L&N E8s have one of the best paint schemes and seeing them with a nice set of matching passenger cars in the video is great.

Seeing those locos highlights a big problem for me in this hobby - I see a sweet looking paint scheme for a Railroad I don’t have and won’t fit in with my era, but I still get that gotta have it feeling!!!

CSAM, that's a nice looking set as is. The wife a few years back was looking through a Williams catalog I got and she really liked the freight paint scheme on the scale L&N FA's. She called it her Boston Creme Pie. She wanted passenger cars for it but no where was there anything close. So I found a 6 car set of Williams passengers cars and I am having them painted in those colors of the engines. ......Paul

How did the MTH cars look with the Lionel engine? I have a set of the passenger cars but favor Lionel power so I am trying to figure out which engine would look best. Really prefer steam. Any help appreciated.

Robert, they would not look good at all as the engines are scale at about 17/18" in length while the MTH cars are similar to Lionel's postwar aluminum cars and way too short at 15". The cars should be noticeably longer than the engines! Also the color was much too dark on the MTH cars.

Lionel made a set of scale Legacy L&N F3's several years ago that would be a 'so-so' match as far as the color goes. At least the cars would be a couple of inches longer than the engines...

Nice locos; nice Weaver cars. Almost a match. The L&N blue seems to be one of those colors that wanders around in its shades, from brand to brand. And prototype paint fades, of course. I do remember these L&N locos from childhood, but not definitively per the shade of blue. I recall the later gray/yellow better, of course.

I wouldn't be embarrassed by some Weaver cars behind those Lionels if I were you.
