Picked this up recently.  I have a few bronze steam locos but none have a bronze tender.  I have a CLW kit of this loco with brass coined drivers, but the back of the firebox in the cab is left open for the motor in contrast to this one which has an enclosed firebox.  I think I like the older version more from Saginaw.

Remarkably this thing runs great albeit drawing 2 amps.  The reverse switch circled in orange works well.  It truly is a testament to the tech of that era that it still holds up.

i have seen CLW H-10 with plastic center drivers.  Nice idea for the time but seems cheap compared to this.

Now I just need to finish the boiler stanchions, etc.  Wonder when Saginaw ended?IMG_1615

The Saginaw G5 is a very interesting model.  Growing up on Long Island in the late 40's in Ronkonkoma, NY, LIRR G5's were my introduction to steam.  Looking at the photo I believe the Saginaw G5 model has the best dimensioned/shaped boiler of any commercially produced 2 rail G5 produced to date. Pairing a Saginaw G5 with a MG, Sunset, or Weaver G5 tender would make for a good looking well-proportioned model of the prototype.
