I have no plans on purchasing a Legacy engine or upgrade to Legacy for now and run TMCC only. I have engines from Weaver, 3rd Rail, Atlas and Lionel. Temporarily I have a friends Legacy engine on my layout and have been running it well with my Cab1. Very impressed with how smooth it runs and would guess it would even be better under a full Legacy system. I have found that if I build a lash-up using the Legacy and a TMCC engine, they fight a bit. The TMCC engine wants to run a little faster. I've tried setting momentum and EOB parameters which make changes but does not eliminate the difference. If I let the TMCC engine lead, I do not notice as much struggling between the two but I can tell the the lead engine is running faster. Is this just the "way it is"? Might they run better together under Legacy control? Just for future reference should I upgrade my system or purchase a new engine.

I find running the Legacy engine in TMCC mode with the TMCC engine MU ed eliminates some of the problem and allows the engines to run together.
From the manual.
NOTE: When a lashup is created, the lead Engine sets the type of control. So if you have a
LEGACY loco in the head of the consist, a TMCC loco will not move, as it does not “understand” 200
speed steps. For best results, use same-type engines - LEGACY/LEGACY or TMCC/TMCC - for lashups.
You can solve this by setting the LEGACY loco as a TMCC loco in the INFO selections; then you
can place the LEGACY loco in the lead position.
Notice when you build a Train, the lead loco sets the operating mode for the Train. Keep this in
mind and remember the limitations for the TMCC locos, since they are not able to operate in LEGACY
Its basically "the way it is". Signifigant improvements in electronics and gearing of legacy locos make them operate at different speed levels(slower with more speed steps) than their TMCC counter parts.
" Lashing up" TMCC and legacy is not ideal but when it is done it is recommended to put the TMCC unit in the lead as you have done.
The "backdrivable gearing" of the legacy loco allows it to coast.
Using the legacy system for operation may help a bit, offering more "tunability" of speed steps and smoother operation of TMCC equipment but it would likely not totally eliminate the operational differences.
I have given up trying to do a lash up with any TMCC engines. Even exact engines do not seem to work well together and you can hear the gears grind as they fight each other. I have had better luck with two Legacy engines.
Al, Rick is correct. Shut the Odyssey off and put the TMCC engine first and you will be OK.
Sorry to say, I did not get a chance to try it out as you stated. The engine was purchased by a friend of mine from Chris L. when they attended Brian V. open house in Maine. I picked the engine up from Chris when I saw him at the Boston Metro Highrailers open house that next weekend. It spent about a week or so on my layout before I repacked it to take to York to hand off to my friend who bought it. Chris would have taken it to York but he will be traveling by train (lucky him) and did not want to carry it along.
