One of the symptoms is to experience temporary memory lose of our current inventory of engines. This is highly dangerous as this causes acquisition of engines without any concern in terms of what we have in inventory.

So I now know what I have! I do not have a area for a display, so any engine is more then enough for me. Just today I was surprised when I received a Lionel SP SD40T-2 engine by FedEx which was in Lionel's 2012 Vol. 2 catalog. And this was the first additional engine that I bought to go with a set. It maybe the fact that I have the first TankTrain set which came with 2 powered engines.

Or the fact that I also ordered the N & W Pocahontas set, when I already have N & W J-class engine but I wanted the passenger cars to go with it. For some reason I did not order a NYC Mohawk engine, and I do not have one. I did put in a order a CN Piggyback set after Lionel cancelled the Acela set. So apparently the catalogs do have an affect on me. Maybe I should stop looking at the Lionel catalogs or maybe that is why I don't look at other manufactures catalogs. LOL

I don't have many, while the kids are still in the house I have other financial commitments right now. However, being on a budget has directed me towards buying some of the older, less expensive engines that are in dire need of restoration. I have taken a few of them and brought them back to life and it has turned out to be very satisfying when they run around the track, acting like new engines. I sometimes wonder if I will want or have too many and I hope that's never the case.

Top 10 signs that you have too many engines:

10) When you have to buy new shirts because your biceps have gotten so big from lifting your engines on/off the layout

9) When you have to sneak another engine into the house

8) When you can't recall if you have this particular wheel arrangement

7) When you run out of room for adding engines to your handheld remote

6) When you forgot you had that one already and buy another just like it

5) When the delivery man comes to expect a gratuity for hand delivery instead of slinging the package into the bushes

4) When you do a "Lashup" and there's no room left for any rolling stock

3) When you have every known engine there is and still expect the manufacturer to produce another one

2) When you actually have a siding used for "torching" your older engines to make room for newer ones

and the number one sign you have too many engines is:

1) When you walk out of the LHS with yet another engine under your arm and proclaim..."What addiction, I can stop buying engines any time"

Yes, I too have too many engines. Here's a heads-up to the folks who think a theme will reduce collecting engines, it won't! I have had a theme since I bought my first locomotive, and now that my roster has 30+, I still want every streamlined steamer, and East Coast electric locomotive that comes to market.

Maybe I should narrow my theme? Na!

Some of you need to contact Doug. You need a sponsor.

Doug, can you be of assistance here?

Sorry Greg, I can't help any here, The group moderator decided that I was beyond Help or Hope, and in consideration of those for whom there IS HOPE, asked me not to come back, as I would be a poor example to the others.

I have 2 steam engines.. both are 3rd rails.. PRR S1 unskirted duplex that Im upgrading it to EOB with Lionels S1 railsound.. My other is a PRR S2 turbine that has MTH proto 1 sound with fan driving smoke unit..If I can get a T1 duplex and Q1 and Q2 duplex Im done buying trains...!Then I got the trains I'd wanted..

Being new again to this I immediately began collecting things I wanted.  I was never able to afford passenger cars as a kid so I tend to buy steamers with the appropriate consist of cars.  I was happy until I then looked into DCS and Legacy and then heard the sound of the newer locomotives.  This further compounded by scale vs. traditional. Seems if I want Legacy sounds I have to upgrade to scale locomotives.  It is a hard call there but I am trying to go for TMCC controllable if not legacy but then the Girls GG1 set at Patstrains is such a cool thing for my 9 year old I have to get it.  I am excited/ fearful of the Red Carpet event.
