Traction Tires?? | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I have a Lionel NS SD80 Mac and was wondering if it is spos to have traction tires on all the drive wheels? cause I noticed today it only has 2 on front and 2 on the rear is this normal? I think there was some extra tires in the box. LMK Thanks

They usually ship with a set of replacement tires for when the set on it wears out,But there not supposed to have them on every wheel at least my loco's don't and i'm not aware of any that do. If both sets are powered then a set of wheels on each truck usually has groove's for where they go.

There are only four traction tires on the SD-80, or most any Lionel dual-motored diesel, whether it has four or six wheeled trucks. If they put them on all the wheels, you'd have lousy connection to the outside track and all the problems that would bring.

Only the Paris-style Metro trains have traction tires on all wheels.
