Good Morning, I was thinking about putting Railsounds 5 boards into a Union Pacific Diesel, (# to come later, it's not in front of me.) What boards would I need, I only require Sound and Pulmor motor control, no odyssey, and lights, specially strobe, cab, back up, and number board lights . Thanks,

Nickstrains.

There is no Odyssey for Pulmor motors, so that's easy to accommodate.

You need the ERR AC Commander and the ERR RailSounds Commander of your choice.  The lighting may require some extra work, basically the ERR stuff gives you front and rear directional lights, and an output for smoke/cab light/strobe.  For the strobe, it blinks.  You'll doubtless have to wire some of the lighting in combinations.

If you do not want TMCC command control, then all you need is a RailSounds Commander. If you look at pages 18-21 of the ERR manual for the New RailSounds Commander you will see both how it operates in conventional mode and the very simple wiring instructions. Also there are a number of sound choices available and you can listen to these on the Cloud from the ERR website. It is a pretty easy DIY project, and some of the OGR advertisers offer these at a discount and/or do installations. Any other questions please feel free to contact me - email is in my profile.

Ok, what I was thinking is this, sorry for the confusion. I have this diesel (Lionel Item # 6-18205) I want to put boards from this engine, http://www.lionel.com/Customer...9b-bb24-996d0fc90790 in my engine, since their numbers are almost the same, to make my diesel a TMCC railsounds 5 engine using parts from this engine, (if economically feasible.) I wanted to know what I needed, (I.E. Power supply board #....ect.) I was thinking the Sound board for $55 and the power supply board for $40. Is this right? This engine has pulmor motors, so no odyssey needed. This is just to clear things up. Thanks,

Nickstrains.

Lionel is selling RS4 boards but they are still not selling RS5 boards. If they did you would need the audio board, the audio power board plus a motherboard to connect them together.

ERR has put all that on one smaller board That has the same features as RS5 and costs less than the Lionel three board setup with speaker and connecting wires.

Thank you for that information. Idea. Could I buy Rs4 boards, as you mentioned, and stick the UP "chip" into it? I have heard others doing "chip swaps," but is it possible in this case?

My problem with ERR is that they are generic sounds. But I would consider doing it as you have all stated if it does EVERYTHING that RS5 can do, I.E. Towercom, understandable crewtalk, emergency stop....ect. This is still on the table but, if what I proposed is possible, I would do that, (if I can get the "chip.") Thanks,

Nickstrains.

The New Railsounds Commander has intelligible crew talk like RS5. Not sure about the other sounds you mention.

None of the ERR boards are road or engine specific. I think pretty much all of the Lionel RS5 boards are road and engine number specific. That is not a plus unless you have that identical engine but no sounds. As for swapping chips, I have not tried that. If you have RS5 chips and RS4 boards you could try it.
