when running an engine with the Train America system 32 speed steps doesn;t get it going too fast. Will the 100 setting do a better job of running that engine?

A 100 speed steps means it would start off even slower. Try resetting 32 speed steps and see if that is different. G
Actually, you need to define how you have the TAS system configured.
I'm assuming this is the TAS EOB with cruise, right?
For the 32-speed step mode;
ENG + ## + DIR + AUX1 + AUX1 + AUX1 + 1
(The horn will sound after the 3rd AUX1 and after 1.)
Once you're in 32 step mode, set the CAB2 to TMCC mode and you'll get full speed out of the locomotive.
If you want to experiment with 128 step mode, try this.
For the 128-speed step mode;
ENG + ## + DIR + AUX1 + AUX1 + AUX1 + 2
(The horn will sound after the 3rd AUX1 and after 2.)
Set the CAB2 to R100 or CAB1 operating mode.
This will give you smoother speed steps and slower starting.
Are you using the TMCC Cab1 to control the train?
Check the manual for the procedure to set your stall speed. This gets the voltage closer to where it will start to move. Stops all that dialing to get it moving.
Carl, with TAS EOB, stall is a non-issue, the cruise will start movement at the first speed step.
Thanks, John.
