can you do a seperate recording for each engine or is there just one recording available and used for all engines?

One recording per remote. I ask almost every LUG meeting.
Unfortunately just one recording. You can do as many engines, switches, and actions as you like up to the limit, but onyl 1 recording. A bummer in my opinion. I submitted some suggestions about changing this to Lionel and I think they stated it just cannot be done.
I have a recording in my remote and when on the 844 which I made it on it works great. Now I bring out my GS4 and start the recording and you can see the screen indicating it is running but it does not tell this engine to do it. Dumb
Actually it would work with any engine that is the same like TMCC or Legacy using engine 99. Just a thought.
I would suspect that ENG 99 would have to be the engine addressed while making the recording.

True. but as long as that is the only engine on the mainline when the recording is made and no engine specific feature is used (it just would not work anyway) then any engine on the mainline would operate under the original recording as long as it does respond to the engine 99 address. I think that there were some earlier legacy units that did not.
Why can;t they make it so no matter what engine is on the track it will run the recording. I was hoping I could use it for my 844, 4436 and 261 all notherns with very similar size drivers so they should stop at all the rignt places. Doesn;t work that way. Hopefully a suggestion to lionel at next years york.
Ironlake it has to do with the command structure. Embedded in the command is the engine, accessory, or switch number plus the actual command so each engine knows which are the commands it needs to complete. Without this feature you couldn't run multiple engines at the same time in a recording. It is quite simple to make the recording work for another engine. If your 844 engine is #44 just reprogram any engine you want to run on the recording to #44. When you're done program it back to it's original number.

I agree with your thoughts but I can tell you that I know quite a few Legacy owners do not know about nor use the record feature. I feel this is an outstanding feature that needs to be promoted more.
I would not want this feature to be global. It would create a situation where any engine would respond whether intentionally or not.
Yes I agree Marty. What it adds in features is well worth what it would take out if the commands were sent in general. It would make the recording feature a one trick pony and if you forgot and left more than one engine on the track when you started the playback that could get interesting.

I would like to clarify that while I suggested using the global address that is only if you want to. I was stating that the the ability to create a recording at all with the Legacy is still a feature that is not used by many.
I was just wondering how the recording feature worked in Legacy. I use my ARC in TMCC all the time. I have one recording that turns on the layout. Push ACC17 then Aux2 and it powers up the track & turns the lghts on. It has 8 recordings and is a blast to play around with. I like to make a recording of an engine horn doing the crossing sequence and use the recording. It's great with engines with random horns, what you get out of them. I also set up a whole sequence of events and play it when someone comes over. It's quite an effect when the layout runs by itself. I have been using it quite a bit lately. Only one recording wouldn't work for me. You can add an ARC to Legacy can't you?
If you want more than 1 recording, stic with the ARC. There is no reason why it wouldn't work with Legacy.
Jon Z I believe told us the record time has been upped a bit in the new software. Not sure if he mentioned by how much.
Evidently the DCS system has a much bigger memory as you can do two recordings and you can make them long. This comes up under the advanced section on the remote. Now if legacy can do that it would be great.
Also, how giving you an option when you make the recording to have it for one engine only or be gobal. That way you could use it on engines you want. You would still have to push the record button to get it to start, so for engines not wanted on the recording you would just not push the record button.
Asked about multiple recordings and we were told this would not change.
It would be interesting to have an off the record (and candid) discussion with someone on the inside at Lionel about why things are so limited and why they don't seem to be real interested in changing that. I'm not whining or criticizing. I am just really curious. I imagine it boils down to money but there have to be some other things that went into the decision making process that we just don't know about.
