Words can not adequetly express the sadness and sense of loss I feel about Marty's passing.  He was a great Father and family man.  I am proud to have met him and to get to know him and his family while  working with the  NJ Hi-Railers on LCCA Special Events.  The fabulous 185' long layout should serve as a memorial to honor him and his life.  Marty and his family are in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.  We will miss you Marty.  Thank you for your generosity and support.  We love you man!

I met Marty last year at TrainStock lV and was such a wonderful guy. He helped me and my freinds find a ride (Marty's son) from Trainstock to the local train station when all else failed. I know what his family and freinds have gone thruogh w his illness as I have lost several close freinds recently including my mother to this terible desease.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Marty but yet this is very sad news to hear.  Unquestionably Marty made a mark in the hearts  of so many people.  To have that kind of impact speaks volumes about the man.  I hope his family and friends can find some solice knowing that he was rich with friends and will be missed by many people.

Having never met Marty personally his legacy of generosity, compassion for others, and undying love and zest for our hobby is shown by these eulogizing posts. My sincere sympathy to all those fortunate to have been touched directly or indirectly by Marty and his unbridled love for and dedication to model railroading.

He undoubtedly did so much for the NJ Highrailers and I hope they'll find a fitting tribute worthy of keeping his memory and train loving spirit alive.

Not to risk offending those still in the early stages of grieving Marty but if the NJ High Railrailers are contemplating a tribute to this fine gentleman please consider a living memorial to him, honoring him perhaps by initiating a summer weeklong train camp to introduce area younsters to the fun and worthwhile pursuit of o gauge railroading.

I am very upset to hear about Marty's passing. He was a genuinely nice man who got involved in the hobby, when he first begin taking his son Matt to train shows as Matt was the one who was first interested in model trains. Over time, Marty became very interested in the trains as well. He would then be the one who would donated the space that would eventually become the home of the New Jersey Hi-Railers.

I'm proud to say that Marty was a friend to me and many others in the hobby and on this forum.

My sincerest condolences to the Matt and the entire Horning family.

I'm sure the NJ Hi-Railers will pay a tribute to Marty by doing something appropriate to the layout much like they did in Owen Sturms honor.

I never met Marty or even knew of him until I recently watched the I Love Toy Trains segment on RFD-TV about the NJ Highrailers huge layout.  Marty himself narrated the story about his son Matt’s interest in trains which led Marty and his business partner/brother-in-law Bernie to donate at Matt’s request unused space from their business to the club for building the layout.  Not only an incredible layout, but such a remarkable background story.  He must have been a generous and wonderful man.  My sincere condolences go out to Matt, the rest of his family and the members of the club.  You were very fortunate to have known Marty.

I too have lost a few very close friends to pancreatic cancer.

Ben,

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and fellow NJ HiRailer.  I can certainly relate; when we lost Brenda Bailey several years ago it really our club hard, we still miss her.  We've had a few other club members pass away over the last few years as well, and it's just sad.  My condolences go out to you, the club, and Marty's family.
