A gracious guy who has given much joy to so many. Rest in peace, Marty.

It is with great sadness that Ginny and I hear about Marty's passing. Marty was truly a genuinely nice man. He wore his smile proudly and loved the Hi-Railer family. I enjoyed my conversations with him and will always remember him fondly. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Matt and Marty's family in this time of great sadness.

My deepest sympathies to his family and friends in our hobby. He helped found a group that brings out the best in our hobby by sharing its enjoyment with a wide audience. He helped cultivate the better angels of our nature.

Very sorry to hear this. Our condolences to Marty's family and to NJ Hirailers. We also lost two charter members almost a year to the day apart -- one last January and one this past January. It's rough.
Words can not adequetly express the sadness and sense of loss I feel about Marty's passing. He was a great Father and family man. I am proud to have met him and to get to know him and his family while working with the NJ Hi-Railers on LCCA Special Events. The fabulous 185' long layout should serve as a memorial to honor him and his life. Marty and his family are in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. We will miss you Marty. Thank you for your generosity and support. We love you man!

Ben, although I've yet to meet many of the NJ Highrailers and see the club's layout in person yet, I am saddened to hear of your loss. I can only imagine the caliber of person it would take to launch a club such as yours and see it to where it is today. My deepest sympathies to Marty's family and to all who knew him.
David
Rest in peace Marty

Thoughts and prayers for Marty's family.
I did not know him, but I can tell by these posts ..... what kind of man he was.
Life is short, and can take cruel twists. We should all live our lives with the kindness and enthusiasm of this man.
Ben, I am very sorry to learn of Marty's passing... My personal condolences to the family and to the NJ High Railers...
I also want to pass along the condolences of the Boston Metro High Railers as well...
Please pass on my condolences to Matt on his personal loss...
Having never met Marty personally his legacy of generosity, compassion for others, and undying love and zest for our hobby is shown by these eulogizing posts. My sincere sympathy to all those fortunate to have been touched directly or indirectly by Marty and his unbridled love for and dedication to model railroading.
He undoubtedly did so much for the NJ Highrailers and I hope they'll find a fitting tribute worthy of keeping his memory and train loving spirit alive.
Not to risk offending those still in the early stages of grieving Marty but if the NJ High Railrailers are contemplating a tribute to this fine gentleman please consider a living memorial to him, honoring him perhaps by initiating a summer weeklong train camp to introduce area younsters to the fun and worthwhile pursuit of o gauge railroading.
My condolences and prayers.
So sorry to hear this. Prayers to Marty's family and friends.
Avery
As a former member of the NJ Hi Railers, I am deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Marty Horning. Please accept my sincerest condolences. My deepest sympathy to Matt and all of the Horning family, as well as Bernie and his family, and all of the NJHR's family.
Richie
I am very upset to hear about Marty's passing. He was a genuinely nice man who got involved in the hobby, when he first begin taking his son Matt to train shows as Matt was the one who was first interested in model trains. Over time, Marty became very interested in the trains as well. He would then be the one who would donated the space that would eventually become the home of the New Jersey Hi-Railers.
I'm proud to say that Marty was a friend to me and many others in the hobby and on this forum.
My sincerest condolences to the Matt and the entire Horning family.
I'm sure the NJ Hi-Railers will pay a tribute to Marty by doing something appropriate to the layout much like they did in Owen Sturms honor.

I never met Marty or even knew of him until I recently watched the I Love Toy Trains segment on RFD-TV about the NJ Highrailers huge layout. Marty himself narrated the story about his son Matt’s interest in trains which led Marty and his business partner/brother-in-law Bernie to donate at Matt’s request unused space from their business to the club for building the layout. Not only an incredible layout, but such a remarkable background story. He must have been a generous and wonderful man. My sincere condolences go out to Matt, the rest of his family and the members of the club. You were very fortunate to have known Marty.
I too have lost a few very close friends to pancreatic cancer.
Bill
My condolences to you and his family. part of his legacy will be your great club and layout.
Ben,
Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and fellow NJ HiRailer. I can certainly relate; when we lost Brenda Bailey several years ago it really our club hard, we still miss her. We've had a few other club members pass away over the last few years as well, and it's just sad. My condolences go out to you, the club, and Marty's family.
Prayers and sympathy for Marty, his family and all his friends at the club.
