ok vision line big boy using cab-2 and my fat finger tips using key pad more times than not will not respond to key press or will result in key press next to the one I actually pressed !    but other times it will work a few times just fine as in smoke off-low-medium-high or tender lights on/off  or the other aux-2 features.

at first I and lionel thought an antenna issue as well as other lionel techs on this forum had thought but!

I made myself a stylus from 1/8" solid round tubing and sharpened one end to a more or less tapered end with a 1/16" blunted end.

I use it and all key presses respond so is it possible both the vision line big boy and cab-2 remote are okay and my fat fingers are the culprit?

what do you all think?  I really don't want to send this back to lionel for a third time as they already had to replace the rcmc board the first time, and a return again to fix the handrail wire that came loose I will assume from being shipped back to me.

thanks for any thoughts on this

yes mc cormack railroad park is close to me.

I am juggling this issue along with helping my sister as she broke her hip and has dementia so had to find someplace safe for her and now dealing with selling her home and so on so this train issue is a hit and miss for me but if I can possibly hookup with the folks there and see if either my remote or engine is the culprit would save shipping cost for a third time.

thank you for replying

I've got two remotes, and a BB, and a place to run, you are always welcome to come over, or I can come to your place.  I still have those gaskets for you too.

But being it works fin with your stylus, I'd say it's a finger issue.  But I'd still use another remote to check as it could be a calibration issue on the Cab-2.

I just received word from lionel and they feel it is most likely a finger issue seeing the stylus key presses have cured the command/signal/antenna issue with the big boy using the cab-2.

Sinclair thanks for the offer soon as things settle down for me I will visit you as I know your train room/layout has gone through some changes. and yes I will bring my big boy and legacy setup just to confirm its my finger that is the issue here.
