Tmcc engine. Weaver diesel starts with sounds and forward motion in run or program.Using an older Trainmaster Cab base and remote which works with other TMCC (Atlas)engines. What should i be looking for?

The symptom suggest you have no TMCC reception. It appears it simply coming up in conventional mode. First step, I'd probably check the antenna, next you might consider swapping the R2LC with a working locomotive.
I'd suggest programming, but since it's taking off in Program Mode, it appears it simply isn't seeing the TMCC signal.
wasn't that a grounded antenna to the frame problem?
I don't do much TMCC stuff.
Joe, a grounded antenna is one issue that can cause this, a bad R2LC is another. In some cases, reprogramming them fixes it, but it doesn't appear to recognize the TMCC signal is even there.
Thanks John, I was just guessing. A long time ago, Will had posted here and had an article on fixing TMCC engines with problematic reception. It was a great post. I was just coming into O scale. I wish those old posts were archived here.
I guess all the old stuff from around 2011 and before were lost in the major upgrade?
i am back at the engine..first ck in conv started in neutral and had forward neutral and rev but then went back to starting in motion. In program using TMCC i get no commands just sounds sometimes neutral sometimes motion. Shouldi try a RTLC board next and do i risk harming the new board?And where is the antenna?
I don't see a major risk of damaging the R2LC, that would be a good start. I typically test all the boards from a problem engine independently.
The R2LC or motor driver would be the likely suspects due to the fact that it has motion issues, the RailSounds boards have nothing to do with motion.

Yes finding the antennae might help a lot. Side bar... TMCC engines after running in command mode come up in neutral One time only in conventional. After that TMCC engines start in forward in conventional.. The run program switch becomes a lock out switch in conventional when set to program..... This probably doesn't get us anywhere.
It's so long I can't remember what the antenna attaches to R2LC?
The antenna attaches to the TAS board, obviously it's just routed to the R2LC from there.
From the angle, I can't tell if this is the EOB board of the SAW board, so I can't be exact where the antenna connects.
