Weekend Photo Fun 2-10-12-??

When we visited Sonoma recently, we were taking a walk after dinner one night and stumbled upon the Napa Valley Wine Train engines.  We didn't ride on the train, but we did catch the full train the next day moving down the route to the vineyards.

Yes I love it!  Very pleased with my choice to go with the Santa Fe Northern.  Now to get another oval of track with bigger curves set up so I can run her more than a few feet back and forth!

This is my first try at the weekend photo fun thread, but here goes. Still still not finished, but I'm currently on my long week at work which means no play for me.

Many thanks to the forum members who has given me tons of advice on how to proceed with each new step. Until this building, I had not ventured into adding extras beyond the paint.

Kenny Taylor....you did a beautiful job on that building.  WOW...I really like the colors and the detailed painting.  I would be proud to have that one on my layout for sure!

I've always admired this station, but didn't know the story behind it. Alan, are these Disney stations available to buy? If so, where and what do they cost?

I am looking for something like this for my layout.

This hole in the wall would become a passenger terminal, with building fronts to cover up the mess.

I kitbashed a passenger station using two platicville airplane hangers and an HO powerplant. I still have to finish the right side along the wall. Not sure what I will do there. There are industrial sidings on the lower level, so I will have to blend industrial, the passenger station and maybe smaller scale housiing or buildings etc in HO and N scale.

The platform is a standard covered platform extension, with a few additional uncovered sections made from foam food platters, carved with a hot foam knife tool to match the sidewalk markings. I couldn't find the disney station, which would have made a great clock tower addition

Dave - Those Disney train stations show up on the bay from time to time - they are listed as HO but they're not.... You could probably get them one at a time - ship them all to me and then I can box them up and ship them your way in one shipment.....

I would like to see more pictures of that scratch built version out of seven kits..... Very cool.... we have, well, one in the box to start with.....  

I know there is a looong separate thread about the new format, but I have a specific question prompted by this thread.  All my photos are bunched to the left hand side of the page, and most seem vertically distorted.  And I still have the blank white column to the right.  Is there a simple fix?  Thanks

I do not know why, but most pictures do appear to be elongated in the verticle direct, or squeezed  a bit horizontally when they are displayed with this new format. However, if you click on the image, it will open correctly proportioned.

Thanks, Chris.  But while this does the trick, it makes no sense to me to have all pictures be distorted and require another step to get them right.  Surely that can be remedied (at least I hope).

Chris are you using Internet Explorer?  There is a recent thread about this.

Yes, I am.  I didn't see the thread but have downloaded Firefox, and using that browser seems to fix the distortion problem. Thanks, Ron.

However, I still have pictures that are squeezed into a third of the screen and have a white column taking up at least 25% of the screen on the right-hand side.  Is there a fix for this?  (And my apologies to all for inserting these questions into this thread, but the photo threads are my favorite and this new format really hurts them.)

Very nice work on the passenger terminal facade.

Feb. 12 will mark the 203rd birthday of Abraham Lincoln.  Since there were no trains in the US in 1809, I'm posting some photos of his funeral train, along with a military escort.

On a sweeter note, Valentines day is in a few days, so I brought out my Hershey's special train, with hugs and kisses for all.

This set is a K-Line product limited edition (no. 519) from 1996. 

Dave...Thanks for the compliment!  The Disney stations come up on E-bay fairly often but lately they have been a little on the high side dollar wise.  They were issued as an HO model but they are almost exactly O scale being somewhat artistically altered from the prototype.  When I started buying them five years ago you could get all you wanted for around $25.00 to $30.00.  Several dealers blew them out for around $10.00 as some that I got from the bay were marked as such.  By the time I got around to getting enough of them to build what I wanted, the price had risen to around $60.00 to $80.00.  Now they seem to be going for well over $100.00.  I think if you use our WTB forum, you may find some kind folks that would be willing to sell at a fair price.....  You never know when Disney may re-introduce them but I didn't want to wait and I wanted a station that had more of a 19th to very early 20th century detailed architectural look....something like the Grand Central prior to the current terminal.  The kit has a wealth of details and the colors are very nice.  I still haven't gotten around to glazing the windows but I will get back to the passenger facilities real soon as I am about to go back over the layout and start more detailing and scenery.  Here are some more pictures.....

I'm using Google Chrome (Firefox has gotten rather bloated and slow recently, and besides, you can play Angry Birds inside Chrome as an app ). While the photos are normally proportioned, they're still not centered within the posts.

I think the forum software means to treat them as thumbnails--you can click on the photo and it comes up full-size while the forum dims into the background (although that makes the thumbnail box along the bottom redundant).

I also have the whitespace on the right-hand side. That's the column where the ads, recent posts and the "who's online" box are located. Since they don't run all the way down the page, there is an empty space below where those page elements end. 

I wanted an O scale version but I found an S scale version of a log cabin. This was a laser cut kit from Creative Design. The roof came in four pieces but I would have prefered two pieces.

Are you able to upload photos?  I wasn't able to upload photos with Google Chrome, but I can with Firefox.
