Some random stuff this morning.

Lion Chief Plus NW-2 Switcher. These are the bomb and are great little runners. Just a grand slam for Lionel as Lion Chief Plus continues to impress and grow the line with every new catalog.

Picked up my first Menards rolling stock. Wow, very nice and a great price!

Here are a C&O livery and a beautiful B&O Sentinel Service box car.

Some of the layouts at the Big E

Hi Ben, The sign above the display says this is a "new limited run kit." Did you happen to take note of whether that meant that whole block is one kit ? Who is offering it for sale?

Thanks for posting all those photos, too.

My big find at the show - a custom built 2-rail O scale caboose (my brother and I have a camp near Tionesta, PA):

Now that is a very interesting find! My family has property up near Tionesta as well, and I have slowly been acquiring pictures of the TVRR with the intent of making a caboose. The Connecticut Antique Machinery Association restored an old TVRR caboose they acquired and now has it on display with their collection.

The G&O serves the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area where the Super Bowl will be played in a few hours.   Here are a few photos of the many special trains that the G&O had to run to bring the Bronco and Panther fans to the game.

A G&O special headed by a borrowed N&W Class A crosses the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. The G&O had to borrow the Class A because of power shortage.

Extra 706 rounds the famous Coupler Curve and heads for the Super Bowl.

The G&O was so short of equipment that we had to take the Polar Express out of storage to handle the crowds.

Amtrak California was standing room only as it uses G&O rails to bring people to the Super Bowl.

Here is a line up of some of the many trains that have arrived at the G&O's Depot Station.  Depot Station is just 20 miles and a 1/2 hour drive from San Francisco 49ers Levis Stadium in Santa Clara.

The crowds are on their way to the game.  Kickoff is just 3 1/2 hours away.  The temperature is 70 degrees and there isn't a cloud in the sky.  Root for your favorite team.  I am heading for the party and big screen TV at G&O headquarters in San Leandro.  Happy Super Bowl to all.

Frank,

This is one of the best threads on the forum. It is our chance to view the fantastic work you and everyone else here can do. I'm sure many look forward to it each week as I do.

Well, BobbyD, I much appreciate your saying so and enjoy the positive feed-back. Thank you.

However, when I read, for the first time, last night, a thread started by Marty Fitzhenry on the "Forum Suggestion Box" in which he stated his opinion that there were posters "obsessed with liking everyone to get their community numbers down," and that some "like every post they can find," I got a bit bummed-out by the news (new to me) and the subsequent conversation (now closed) regarding such a practice.

You see, I've been enjoying every "Like" as sincere and had no idea whatsoever of "Likes" being posted, by some, for any self-serving reasons.

However, I will likely continue to post further photos of modeling that has given me joy to create as well as to share on OGR and will take folks at their word when they send me a "Like.". What's the point of getting turned-off by such a negative factor (not Marty's "whistle-blowing," but the phony Likes, yes.) ?

I'm in your camp FrankM: I only LIKE the ones that I actually LIKE, numbers be &&&&ed.  Like you, I never even thought of it that way.

One way that I use LIKE that might be unusual, but I hope the recipient gets my drift.  If someone offers a complimentary reply to something I posted, rather than post a "Thank You", which is OK, I just hit the LIKE option on the commenting reply.

Frank,

I think you have the right approach to likes. You can't let yourself get caught up in petty matters. Take the likes as genuine. You have a big following and that comes from people genuinely liking your posts. Sometimes people like a lot of posts to encourage the poster or to be friendly. Some may be doing it for themselves but it doesn't pay to dwell on the negative. Life is too short.

I "LIKE" it Walt! Now if only I had some idea of what is this numbers thing of which you all speak.

Steamer posted:

before the forum upgrade, there was a ranking system in place, the more posts and likes you made, the higher up you were. some were reported to do multiple likes to up their ranking, but that's all gone now.

Hi Steamer, The last entry on the Forum Suggestion Box, in response to Marty's initial posting, "Likes", was by PINGMAN, on [8/31/15] and two particularly pertinent replies to the topic were just above there , by ADRIATIC (on 9/4/15) and Jim Pastorius (on 8/31/15), before the topic was closed.

Are you saying, then, that my concerns are passe' ?

FrankM.
