leavingtracks, Alan Arnold, came by this week and made these photos for me. He made the layout look much better than it is. Here are 3 of his photos that he took:

I've been around these trains my entire life. 9 times out of 10, the track is some back woods, spaghetti looking track with kinks, dips, low joints, bad ties and all sorts of problems. Fairfax County Parks should be commended with not only keeping the now 40-something year old train in pristine cosmetic and mechanical condition but also keeping the track in tip top condition. All new sub-roadbed, ballast ties, all new 20lb rail and 20lb switches. All VERY impressive.

The rear of the open air gondola was terrific. It was easy to move to the other side to take photos. Also we often talked with the brakeman and conductor.

My friend Mike and I went to the Finger Lakes Live Steamers open house last Saturday.  They are located near Clyde NY on a back road. On the way there we found this. It is located on the abandoned former Northern Central (Pennsylvania RR branch) from Elmira NY to Sodus Point.NY  It is located just south of NY 408 on Waddell Rd. It's hard to believe that it is still standing.

I finished decaling the trailers for my Tropicana Juice Train.  There are now eight 20' MTH Premier trailers with home-made roadrailers and one K-Line 40' with railmates.

Short video opening up my new weaver B&O 3 bay offset coal hopper. 

Keith....that juice train is going to be really nice!!  You are doing a great job as usual...

When I saw these beauties, I just had to have them.  They arrived this week.

They are a custom run from Sandpit Trains in Orange, CT.  The only problem is that they spelled my name wrong...

I have many more photos I can post later of the Moscow Train Museum.

I also visited a logging train museum about 100 miles east of Moscow.

It is amazing to a 61 year old guy that I can freely walk around Moscow. 

This week we received some new girder bridges for our garage layout, but my 3 year old had to borrow them first for use with her trains

...and we got a few steps closer to completing the engine shed.  I've added 6 lights to it so far, and (since we tend to move every few years) I added a base and framing to the inside so it's built like a tank:

...and speaking of tanks, I'll finally get around to sharing our "sunken train" - which is the centerpiece of our aquarium (even though it's G-scale).  We got it for $5 (slightly melted) at a flea market, removed all the metal parts, siliconed it back together, added an airstone for bubbles, and voila!

Is that a scale university roundhouse? It's rare to see an O guage roundhouse with square windows & doors!

Nice job on your layout. The log fascia is a nice touch, I don't think I have seen this used before. Living in a log home, I can appreciate this application.

Roger has a great looking roundhouse.  It looks custom built.  I'd also like to know it's origin. It is closer to the Santa Fe look I need.  Roger done an excellent job on his layout.

I'm glad you liked Burke Lake Park. It is an absolute gem. I live only a couple of miles away and have logged hundreds of miles running the 4.5 mile trail around the lake and always wave to the kids on the train. (I'll cover at least 10 miles there tomorrow). The entire right of way was rebuilt within the last 18 months or so. I didn't know the County had that planned and kind of assumed when all the tracks were taken up that the train was the victim of cost-cutting too much in vogue these days. It's nice to see an investment in this little treasure. By the way, here's the Lake from the opposite side taken last November:
