Seems like we smoked out a few power-packs, lol.
Nation Wide Lines posted:A couple of 3020s
This is the earliest, from early 1922. It features the 8 spoke wheels without the steel tire/rim, early round track trip reverse rod, and extra hand rails over the sand domes.
Slightly later 3020, also from 1922. Again this engine features the early round track trip reverse rod, but now the engine features the later 10-spoke wheels with the steel tire/rim. This engine does not feature the extra hand rails over the sand domes.

Love this Flyer loco. Just acquired a set of the brown Columbia cars, to go with my early loco like this one!

aside from the Girard Powerhouse, i don't know of another Marx fixed voltage transformer. i have seen pictures of the 41000 set with a standard #709 transformer. there were plenty of stepped transformers in this era. i've always assumed this was just a general Marx accessory for use with other brands of fixed voltage transformers.
Floors? We ain't got no floors. We don't need no floors. I don't have to show you any stinkin' floors!

Nice Selection. The Express car is particularly difficult to find. I saw one once and did not buy it. Still kicking myself over that.
The smaller cars like this typically have re-used metal comprising their floors. Generally any lithographed metal is faces inside, so look through the windows at the floors. I believe someone reversed this floor at one point, so that the litho is easier to view.
The cars in this set have floors that are made from 120 tender sides, with the scripted American Flyer Lines visible through the windows.

yeah, i know i took a little bit of "poetic" license there...
thanks for the added information.
There has been a lot of excitement down at the freight depot this weekend! A big load of new cars arrived, all the very best ones from France. Even Batman and Mater showed up. Comments heard in the crowd: "My, that 4CV is cute", I wish I could afford the DS-19", Holy Cow Batman, look at the selection!", "Dad Gum, look at all them fancy imports". Santa is interested in the red Dauphine. Sorry Santa, that one already has my name on it. Some appear to be eagerly reading the brochures. There hasn't been as much interest in the Skodas waiting to be unloaded....

interesting idea... with the cars posed like that, sunk down to street level and adding some floor to ceiling glass walls, i can really picture this as a new car dealership...?
Been a bit of a Bing week. Got this 3 piece lot, mostly wanting the caboose. It’s got Litho on both sides. My other two look good on one side and are really bad on the other. I have a couple of Bing tab couplers in the box so I can convert the stock car.

The fixed voltage transformer that came with Unique Arts sets looks just like a Marx transformer with no variable handle on it. I bet Marx's transformer maker supplied them to UA.

the UA #849 transformer came with the quite unique Control Tower...
...with embedded rheostat which at the time was likely a very awkward control to use, and over time has become an accessory that is seldom found without a frozen throttle control and the typically (as pictured) broken throttle handle.
Unique Arts trains were short lived around 1949-1950. the Marx rheostat, though possibly still around, predated the UA trains by a few decades.
fun stuff...gary

Just curious because I saw this $7500.00 overhead set with one, but it also came with two transformers so one of them is definitely not part of the set.

i'm going to go out on a limb and call shenanigans on this set. i believe this is a the combined contents of three or 4 different sets. i do not believe the Marx channel track electric train ever came with an over/ under figure-8 track layout, but rather a simple single track oval with only a single train (set # 41000). with the 2nd overpass in the background, i believe the track is from two sets of the Marx Electric Speedway race car set.
now, as to the Marx rheostat... i looked through some old auction photos and it was used in the Electric Speedway set to control the 2nd car off the transformer accessory tap...

i suppose if i knew a little more about Lionel history i'd understand how Ives became Winner Lines, became Lionel Jr, became Lionel Scout...? my first train was a Scout and for all those well intentioned parents who buy Limited Edition SG #400E sets for their kids, i'd plead with them to pick up an old Scout set so they could actually play with it.

Think you hit that one right on the head with the speedway track. Looks to be more than 2 sets worth of trains however, 6-9712 comfort coal gondolas, 5-555 man in door boxcars, 3-5151, tenders, 2-557 cabeese. Usual sets were 1s and 2s.

there might even be a passenger car in there...
that's actually an impressive amount of cars and some very hard to find track for the Speedway electric cars (if in good condition), but $7.5k.... ouch.
